UNITED STATES ADOI-l KWASNICKI, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
DOLL OR THE LIKE.
Application filed September 27, 1927. Serial No. 229L818.
This invention relates to dolls and the like and more specifically to improved coupling means which I shall illustrate and describe in connection with the arms and legs of a doll, although I would have it distinctly understood that the invention may apply with equal facility to coupling means for the legs, heads and other parts of dolls, toys and the like, and I shall refer to the same as applied to a doll to avoid repetition.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a coupling means which enables the body or torso of the doll to be assembled and the arms and legs pressed into coupling engagement therewith and retained in such engagement yet permitting free movement of the arms and legs.
My invention therefore relates more specifically to the coupling means and associated parts and consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be. more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a view in elevation of one-half of the body of a doll, illustrating while the arms and legs are coupled to the body certain portions in elevation and certain portions omitted for purposes of clearness;
Figure 2 is a view in elevation, looking at one side of the body of the doll shown "in Figure 1, and showing the two halves of the body together.
5 1 and 2 represent two halves of the body including the head of a doll, and these parts constitute complete sections of the front and back of the doll which are adapted to be glued together.
0 These sections 1 and 2 are made with semicircular recesses 3 which when together form openings for the accommodation of my improved coupling devices. The .walls of these recesses 3 are grooved, as shown at 4,
to receive therein the edges of spring conling members 5. As all the coupling memrs are alike the description hereinafter of one will apply alike to all.
Each coupling member 5 may be stamped or otherwise formed from spring sheet metal tongues 6 are bent or curved outwardly or,
in other Words, flare apart, as shown at 7 The arms 8 and legs 9 of the doll are 'provided at their ends or extremities with heads 10, curved H1 cross section, and also having their edges slightly curved, and back of each I head an annulargroove 11 is formed which constitutes a neck adapted to be accommon dated in the spring tongues 6 and turning freely therein.
I do not limit myselfof course to the ex-.;
act shape or contour of the legs and arms and their point of attachment but I have I shown these parts as conforming in general contour to the interior shape of the coupling members 5, with annular shoulders 12 to bear against the outer face of the body of the doll and limit the inward movement of said limbs.
In operation, the coupling members 5 are placed in the grooves 4 of one section of the body and the other section is then dipped in glue or other adhesive and placed against the first-mentioned section, securing said sections of the doll together and securely confining the coupling members 5. The arms and legs, which may be molded or otherwise formed, are then properly positioned, and the heads 10 are forced through the coupling members so as to bring the spring tongues into operative engagement with grooved portions 11, constituting restrictive necks back of the heads so that the arms and legs may have free turning movement and yet be securely held in coupled relation to the body of the doll.
As above stated, my invention is applicable for use on other forms of toys and other forms of dolls and hence I do not limit myself to the specific construction set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
I claim A coupling means for the legs and arms of dolls and the like, including a socket memtion' to receive the tongues, said parts when her adapted to be secured in the body of together havinga surface contact throughout 10 the doll and comprising a plurality of conthe inner surface of the socket member. verging tongues flared outwardly at their Signed at Brooklyn, N. Y., in the county 6 inner ends, said leg or arm at its end of a. of Kings, and State of New York, this 26th shape to fit and turn in the socket member day of September, A. D. 1927. and having a head thereon to be forced between the tongues and a restricted neck por- ADOLF KWASNICKI.
