left to right into such corner in producing a. smooth and finishedmlter in a cornice or molding; a further object being to provide a handle portion having parts extending from the opposite corners of the tool at right angles to the toolbody to form a comparatively long square edge for firmly supporting a tool in its movement from aguide strip or rail in the use thereof; a further object being'to provide a tool in which the handle member may be detachably and reversibly mounted in connection with the body portion of the tool to provide for the left to right and right to left uses thereof; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in a device of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, eflicient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanyingdrawing forms a part, in which the separateparts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Fig. 1 is a sectional view through a part of a wall and ceiling construction, indicating one use of my improved tool. 1

Fig. 5 is a perspective detailed view ofthe tool shown in Fig.8 with the parts attached In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing, I have shown one form of trowel comprising a body part 10 which maybe composed of wood or other materialfaced on its outer surface with a sheet metal blade 11, the opposite edge portions 12 and '13 of which are of the same contour; and which in the construction shown are adapted to form the corners or rounded finish 14- where the wall 15intersects the ceiling 16 of a room or compartment. In Fig. l of the drawing, the edge 12 of the blade is shown forming the cornice 14 by movements of the tool from left to right to approach the wall 17 of the room arranged at right angles to the wall 15.
On the face of the body 10 opposite that to which theblade 11 is secured, I provide a handle member 18 which extends from one corner 19 of the tool to the opposite corner 20 thereof, the ends of the handle member being of V-format-ion to have faces arranged at right angles to each other, and said right angled faces are comparatively longer to provide suflicient bearing for the tool on guiderails or other supports, for example, the surface of the ceiling 16 and'on the supporting rail 15' attached to. the wall 15 as well as the wall 17 it being understood that the bearing surfaces at 19 and 20 are in common alinement with the corner portions 10 and 10 of the body 10. It is preferred that the blade 11 have flanges 11 extending at right angles thereto and over the corner faces of the body 10. These faces are flush with metallic facings 19 and 20* at the ends 19 and 20 of the handle member 18.
It will be understood that in the useof the tool shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing upon the wall 17 ,the edge 13- of'the blade is put into use and the handle member 18 will extend tothe right instead of to the left. In this respect, the tool becomes-reversible or capable of use on walls extending at right angles to each other and intersectingat a corner to facilitate the proper formation of the miter of the cornice or molding. The
operation of forming the cornice or molding is in accordance with the present practice, it being understood that the body'of plaster is applied along the wall, ceiling, or at the intersection of a wall and ceiling,and the tool is moved over such body of plaster to form the desired contour in the wall, ceiling or intersecting portion, the tool being guided in this operationby the strip 15 and by the surface of the ceiling 16. It will also be noted that the outer face 11 of the bladell is smooth and unobstructed, thus facilitating the clear and clean discharge of the cement, concrete or other substance from said surface in" the manner of use of trowels and similar tools,

grammatically illustrated the direction of movement of the tool over the walls l5 and 17 in meeting atthe corner or intersection of said walls, the tool being shown in full lines in one position, namely, the left to right movement, and in dotted lines in the other, or rightto left position. The tool illustrated in Fig. l is of the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings. In Figs, and 5 l have shown a modification, and in said figures, 21 represents a tool, stock or body having arranged centrally thereof a rectangular aperture 22, whereby a handle member 22 having a projecting rectangular plug Bl, may be reversibly coupled with the body ill by passing the plug 24 into said aperture from either side face of the body 21.
The body Ql includes a blade 25 at one side face of said body and has a projecting edge portion 26 of a contour suitable for forming a predetermined cornice, mold or the like, the contour being the same as that employed on the edges 12 and 13 in the construction shown in Fig. l of the drawing, but instead of using the dual edges as in Fig. 1, the single edge 26 is employed; but in both uses of the tool, the handle member 23 is reversed on the body 21. It will also be seen on a consideration of Figs. 3 and 5 of the drawing, that the end portions 27 and 28 of the handle member, are in common alinement with the corner portions 2-5" and Q5 of the blade 25 to provide for the proper supporting of the tool over guiding surfaces as in the construction shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
\Vit h my improved tool construction, I provide simple and efficient means for constructing corniees, molding and the like in a plaster, concrete or other composition body employed in Walls, ceilings and the intersections of the same. It will be understood that my invention is not necessarily limited to the particular contour employed on the edge or edges of the blade of the tool, this contour being such as to suit the particular use for which the tool is intended. \Vhile I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into etl'ect, it will be understood that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and arious changes therein and modifications thereof may be made within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.
Having fully described my lIlVOlltlOH, what- 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A tool of the class described comprising a body portion, a blade on one face of said body portion and having a. projecting edge of predetermined contour, a handle member at one side of the body portion and extending from one corner to the opposite corner of said body, said handle member forming wide guide surfaces for the tool, and said handle member being reversil'ile with respect to said body portion, the coupling of the handle member with said body portion being by an angular socket in said body portion, and an angular knob on said handle member engaging said socket.
It tool of the class described comprising a body portion having two blade edges of. similar contour arranged on opposite side edges of said body portion, said edges int r secting in surfaces arranged at right angles to each other forming corner portions disposed in opposite. relation on said body portion, and a handle member traversing thev body portion from one corner thereof to the other and on one side of said body portion.
3. A tool of the class described compris ing a body portion having two blade edges of similar contour arranged on opposite side edges of said body portion, said edges intersetting in surfaces arranged at right angles to each other forming corner portions dis posed in opposite relation on said body portion. a handle member traversing the body portion from one corner thereof to the other and on one side of said body portion, and the. ends of the handle member being comparatively wide and havin surface; ar-- ranged at rightangles to each other and in common alinement with th! angularly disposed surfaces at. the corners of said blade.
l. A tool of the class described comprising a body portion having two blade edges of similar contour arranged on opposite side edges of the said body portion, said edges ii'itersecting in surfaces arranged at right. angles to each other forming corner portions disposed in opposite relation on said body portion, a handle member traversing the body portion from one corner thereof to the other and on one side of said body portion, and said corner portions having bearing faces disposed at right angles to each other.
A tool of the class described comprising a body portion having two blade edges of similar contour arranged on opposite side edges of said body portion, said edges intersecting in surfaces arranged at right angles to each other 'l'orming corner portions disposed in opposite relation on said body portion, a handle member traversing the body portion from one corner thereof to the other and on one side of said body portion, said corner portions having bearing faces disposed at right angles to each other, and said handle member having corresponding surfaces in alinementtherewith.
6. A tool of the class described comprising a body portion, a blade on one face of said body portion and having a projecting edge of predetermined contour, and a handle member at one side of the body portion and ltlfi extending from one corner to the opposite corner of said body and in alignment with the corners of the blade.
7 A tool of the class described comprising a body portion, a blade on one face of said body portion and having a projecting edge of predetermined contour, and a handle member at one side of the body portion and extending from onecorner to the opposite corner of said body and in alignment with the corners of the blade, the side portions of said handle member forming wide guide surfaces for the tool.
8. A tool of the class described comprising a body portion, a blade on one face of said body portion and having a projecting edge of predetermined contour, and a handle member at one side of the body portion and extending from one corner to the opposite corner of said body and in alignment with the corners of the blade, the side portions of said handle member forming wide guide surfaces for the tool, and means on the body portion and handle member whereby said handle member is reversible with respect to said body portion.
9. A cornice and mold forming tool of the class described comprising a blade body having a double edged blade having two opposed edges of similar contour, one face of the tool being fiat and a handle member on the other face thereof by means of which the tool may be operated, and said handle member extendingcentrally and transversely of said body and with relation to the opposite blade edges, permitting of left to right and right to left movement of the tool over surfaces arranged at right angles to each other to permit of the movement of the tool to the point of intersection of such surfaces.
10. A cornice and mold forming tool of the class described, comprising a blade body having a double edge blade having two opposed edges of similar contour, one face of the tool being flat and a handle member on the other face thereof by means of which the tool may be operated, said handle member extending centrally and transversely of said body and with relation to the opposite blade edges, permitting of left to right and right to left movement of the tool over surfaces arranged at right angles to each other to permit of the movement of the tool to the point of intersection of such surfaces, the blade edges intersecting in opposite corner portions of said blade body, and said handle member having comparatively wide portions arranged in alinement with the corner portions of the blade body and at right angles thereto.
