lH. MEI DRUM VAGINAL SYNGE Filed sept. 14, i925 35 INV NTOR BY Z7( @7M/J ATTORNEY Patented May 15, '1928.
The object of the invent-ion is the production ot' a vaginal syringe, in which the 5 injection fluid is separated from the return or outflowing fluid. The second object of the invention is the production ofa vaginal syringe, which can be easily dismantled t clean cach of its parts. The third object t0 is the production of a syringe of simple parts that can easily be replaced and assembled, and which are of cheap first cost. Thefourth object of the invention is the production of a syringe with'an adjusting and i stop hood, which retains fluid in the vaginal canal, by means of which a pressure and suction can be obtained to loosen the folds of the canal to thoroughly clean every por-4 tion thereof. The fifth object is the production of a vaginal syringe with an adjusting and stop hood-to control the depth of its insertion in the vaginal canal.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. l represents a side elevation of an exemplifi-` cation of the vaginal syringe with vits appurtenances; Fig. 2 shows an enlargedl cross section of Fig. -1 on the line 2, 2; Fig. 3 indicates a section of. Fig. 2 on the line 3, 3, and Fig. 4 shows an end view of a detail. The syringe in this instance `is indicated with the injection tube 20, having the threaded ends 2l and 22. A tube fitting is indicated in its entiretyV at 24 and is shown withv the corrugated inlet nipple 25, having the axial inlet opening 26 and the corrugated outlet nipple 27 at one end, smaller in diameter than the inletnipple and the return Huid discharge chamber 28 at the other end. The end of the fitting 24 opposite the nipple 25 is counterbored as shown at 29. The threaded end 22 of the tube 20 is in 4threaded engagement with the wall of the opening 26. Anoutlet nozzle has formed therein the discharge chamber 36 for the injection fluid and said chamber is threaded at one end for the threaded end 21 of the said injection tube 20. The nozzle has form-ed on its outer face a plurality of recesses 37, and small outlet openings 38 extend through the nozzle from the chamber 36 to the said recesses. A reduced portion 39 is formed with said nozzle.
An outer discharge tube 45 has one end detachab'lyv seated in the counterbore 29 of the fitting 24, and its other end is detachably BROOKLYN, NEW from.
SYRINGE. l
144, 1925. serial no. 56,238.
lseated on'thereduced portion 39 of the nozf zle 35. The said discharge tube has formed therewith a pair of opposit-ely positioned depressions 46, having the openings 47.
kAn adjusting stop hood is detachably supported on the tube 45'and consists of the cup shapedshell 50,- preferably of rubber,
vhaving vthe converging peak 51, the curvatureof which vanishes with said tube.`
. A rubber tube 55 leads from a douche bag, notvshown, and connects with the inlet nipple 25. A rubber tube 56 has one-end connected to the outlet nipple 27 and leads to thepan 60. -1
To use the syringe it is inserted, in place and the depth of its entrance is controlled by the location of the adjusting and stop hood 50. Water or other fluid used flows from thel tube 55 and enters the opening i 26 of the nipple 25, on its way through the injection tube 20. The fluid next enters the discharge chamber l36 of the outlet nozzle 35 and is discharged through the small outletopenings 38, and directed to the organ to be cleaned or treated. By reason of the nipple 25 being larger than the nipple 27, pressure is automatically produced in the vagina which unfolds the folds thereof and balloons the same, unti'l the fountain bag which supplies the cleaning Huid is completely emptied. The Huid on its return enters the openings 47 of the tube 45 and flows through the annular space between said tube and the injection tube 20, and then enters the return Huid outlet chamber 28. The outlet Huid then flows through the outlet nipple 27, the tube v56 andinto the pan'` 60.
The rate of discharge of the fluid through the tube 56 can be controlled, by clamping any portion thereof. The adjusting and stop hood 50 preventsthe injection fluid flowing to waste before perform-v ing its function.
A suction can be obtained with the syringe after being inserted in place by compressing the tube 55, when the weight of the fluid in the tube 56, produces a partial vacuum in the tube 45 and thereby a suction in said tube 45 draws the return f iuidl therethrough. This is made possible by reason of the stop hood 50 being of pliable material and adjustably supported on the tube 45 to permit its closeoontact with the body of the user. v
Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exemplilication is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.
Having described my invention what I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim 1s:
In a vaginal syringe of the character described the combination of an injection tube, a. tube fitting having one end detachably connected to one end of said injection tube, an inlet nipple for said fitting, an out-let nipple for said fitting of smaller diameter than the inlet nipple to automatically produce pressure in and unfold the folds of the vagina, when the Huid used in the syringe is being discharged, an outlet nozzle having recesses on its outer face detachably connected to the other end of the injection tube, 'said nozzle having openings extendl ing from said recesses to its interior, an outer tube having a plurallty of recesses extending from its outer face with openings pressure in the vagina, consisting of a cup shaped shell of lexiblematerial adjustably supported on the outer tube, said shell having formed therewith a converging peak Y that joins ywith said outer tube and vanishes therewith.
In )testimony whereof I ailizc my signature,
HARRY MELDRUM.
