PATENT OFFICE.
ILTON s. norscnminzr, or SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA...
SANITARY FLUSYHING-NOVZZLE,
Application filed April 30,
' T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrn'ron S. 'HUr- SCHMIDT, a clt zen of the United States, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented and serves the purposev of forming a closure new and useful Improvements in'Sa'nitary .Flushing-Nozzles, of which the following'is a specification.
This invention relates to a sanitary flushing nozzle and especially to a syringe adapted to be used for irrigating and cleansing the vaginal canal. 1
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a syringe of the above character which is simple and substantial in construction and provided with adjustable and detachable parts which may be readily separated and sterilized. V
Another object of the invention is to'provide a syringe by which the water or liquid employed 'may be efficiently applied, and
V furthermore a syringe equipped with a rewhich turn flow or discharge connection'through which the liquid :rnay'freely escape during the cleansing operation.
Another object of the invention is to pro- 7 vide meansfor imparting a pulsating movement to the liquid'passing through the discharge nozzle of the syringe.
Further objects will hereinafter appear. Y
The invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings n Figure 1 is a side elevation of the sanitary flushing nozzle.
Fig. 2 1s a side'elevation showing how the 'sanitary nozzle' is connected with a source of water supply and also how it is connected Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing a slight modification of the form ofnozzle shown in Fig. 1. r
Fig. 4 is a" detailed view of the nozzle Proper.
' Referring. to the drawings in detail and particularly to Fig. 1;'A indicates a holder in which is formed two passages indicated at 2jand. 3 Forming anextension of the 1 outer 1 end of the f holder is a pair of nipple membersi and 5 to which a pair of rubber tubes will be connected as hereinafter described. Formed on the opposite end of the holder is a recess 6 for the reception of a nozzle 7 and formediat thesameend of the holder in alinement with: the opening 6 is a collecting pocket 8 which is in connection plural openings shown at 11.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an, 18, 1921 1919. Serial No. 293,648.
with the passage 3' and the nipple 5; Surfor the opening into which the nozzle 7 is inserted as will hereinafter be described. The nozzle 7 consists of a tube or a member which is slightly curved, asshown in Fig. 1. This member is provided with an interior passage 10 and the'outer end of the same is provided with a plurality of discharge openings 11 through which the water or other liquid employed may freely flow when the device is being employed. The outer end of the nozzle is'closed andthe only discharge opening provided is therefore the These openings are radially disposed and terminate in grooves 12, formed on the outer end of the nozzle. The inner end of the nozzle is cylindrical in cross sections and istapered, as shown at 13, to permit the nozzle to be inserted in a socket formed in theholder for its reception. The method of supporting and securing the nozzle is important as it -permits adjustment of the sarne or turning of the nozzle to suit varying condltions.
By referring toFig. 2, it will be seen that the sanitary flushing nozzle is connected 7 with a hot-water bag 14 by means of. a rub- 1 her tube 15,this tube being equipped with a hand-bulb 16' and 'a cut-off .or clamp 17.
The tube 15 is connected with the nipple 4 and water contained in the bag 14 Willtherefore drain downwardly through the tube and will then pass through the nipple a, the passage 2 and the passage formed in the nozzle 10', the water being finally permitted to escapev through the radially disposed openings 11 and the grooves 12'for'med in the nozzle tip. Water is in this manner "sprayed in all directions against the'internal walls ofrthe canal into which it inserted,
- and it is furthermore.permitted to drain and discharge" through the holder, as this is providedwith a' return connection or tube 18, that is, the pressure created by the entering water will very slightly expand the walls and will therefore permit the waterto drain freely in a downward direction until .-'it
enters the recess; Sand the passage 8 formed in theholder. From here-itis;o1ovious} that it will drain with a slight suction throngh the nipple 5 and the tube 18. If it is desired to insure a more vigorous application of water or other'liquid it is only necessary to compress the hand-bulb 16. Thisproduces a pulsating flow and alternately increases anddecreases the pressure of the water dis "charged through the perforations 11 formed on the outer end of the nozzle.
A- syringe construction, as here shown, is
not onlysimple and compact but its con struction permits-it to be quickly assembled and taken apart for use or for sterilization of same. I The syringe is particularly constructed for insertion into the abdominal cavities and discharge passages of thehuman body. The
connection formed between thesyringe and expansion of the mucous membrane of the walls ofthe cavity. It furthermore produces a.scrubbingand massage effect which not only causes a thorough cleansing but also circulation of blood in the surrounding tissues, in this manner alleviating and often curing diseases of parts treated. The resilient. nature of. part 9 permits the abdominal cavity treated to be entirely closed when the cleansing operation is taking place, thus permitting the user to lie in bed, to'stand or to' assume any position desired when using the same.
be seen that soiling of the bedding or wear-' ing apparel is also obviated as the water, fatter having performed its cleansing operation, is automatically discharged through It will furtl'iermore the tube 18. A slight suction completely empties the cavity of all liquids. "Vhile the form of nozzle shown in Fig. 1 is curved, I
wish it understood that it may be straight as shown in Flg. 4c. and I also wish it un derstood that the design and the shape of the same may be altered to suit varying conditions and applications. 'By referring to Fig; 1, it can be seen that the holder serves the function of-supporting the flexible plug 9 and also the nozzle 7'.
B 're'ferring to Fig. '3, which is a modification of the-saline,
it will be seen that the flexible plug member indicated at 9 "serves the function of supporting the nozzle member 5. In other words, the holder proper is entirely limited, as the rubber plug 7 and also the nipple f may serve the same function. The nozzle 7 '.may thereforcbe removed 1f deslred 'or-it 5 may also be removed, thus permitting cleaning and sterllization of the parts more "readily than with the structure shown in cleansing and 1 scribed comprising an and judgment of the manufacturer may die tate; also that various changes inform and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims. a 7
Having thus described my inventionfwhat I; claim. and desire to secure by Letters Patentispr 1.- An apparatus of the character deelongated substan tially cylindrical shaped holder having an inlet and a discharge passages-formed therein and extending therethrough, a collecting pocket communicating. with the receiving end of the discharge PQSSEIgGflL flexible guard surrounding the holder and adjustable longitudinally thereon, a curved spray'nozzle having a tapered end fitted to the inlet passage of the holder and turnable therein, and a pair of extensions on the opposite end of the holder inwhich the inlet and discharge passages terminate, said extensions being disposed on an angle with relation to each other-and forming tube connecting members.
2. In an apparatus of the character described, a substantially cylindrical shaped elongated holder, saldholder terminat ng at one end 1n a pair of extensions for, the attachment of flexible tubes, an inlet passage and an outletpassage formed in the holder and terminating one in each extenslon, a flexible guard member longitudinally I adjustable on the holder and a nozzle insertible in the holder and adapted to communicate with the inlet passage.
' 3. An apparatus of the character de scribed including a holder having inlet and discharge passages formed therein and excommunicating with the receiving end of the dischargepassage, a flexible, compressible plug surrounding and carried by the hoider, a curved spray nozzle having a tapered end tending therethrough, acollecting pocket fitted to the inlet passage of-the holder and turnable therein, a ser'iesof holes formedin the sides of the nozzle near the outer end, and a serles of grooves or channel formed in the exterior surface of the nozzle'with which said holes communicate and by which :the discharge is'directed outside of-the nozzle to the collecting .pocket and thence through the holder to a discharge.
