UNITED STATES- CARL HELMRICH, OF NEW YORK, .12. Y.
COMBINED TOWEL SERVICE AND ADVERTISING-DEVICE Application filed February l, 1926. Serial No. 85,243.
This invention relates to combined advertising-and towel service apparatus and has as one of its objects to provide a device for use in lavatories of ofl ice buildings, theatre I and places of public congregation in general.
A- feature of the invention is its use as an advertising and display medium, which part of the device is actuated when a fresh length of a towel therein is utilized.
Another object is in the provision of an appliance that displays a plurality of advertisements simultaneously.
A further characteristic is in the provi-- sion of means for preventing extraction of more than a certain length of the towel at a time.
These and other objects are accomplished by the novel constructionand arrangement of parts hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a partial front elevational view of the cabinet. Figure 2 is a partial side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view showing the arrangement of the mechanism taken on line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view thereof taken on line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary sectional view of the actuating apparatus drawn to a large scale.
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 66 of Figure 5.
Referring more in detail to the drawing:-
The numeral 10 generally designates the front of a cabinet on which is located a mirror 11 and a plurality of windows 12, best seen in Figures 1 and 3.
Disposed in the forward uppermost part of the cabinet and extending there-beyond at one side is a spindle 13 having mounted on it a roll 14 and gears 15 within the cabinet, and another gear 16 on the end of the spindle on the outside.
Journalled in the casing and spaced below the spindle 13 is a second spindle 17 carrying a second roll 18 and gears 19.
In the rear of the cabinet and conveniently placed are several idlers 20, 21, and 22 having mounted on them, pinions 23, 24 and 25.
Passing over the rolls 14 and 18 and the idlers 20, 21 and 22, in a manner shown which the roll is revoluble iniFigure 3, are endless screens positioned to show through the windows 12, advertisements and displays thereon.
All of the rolls and idlers' are made to rotate in unison by means of endless chains 27 engaging over thegears15 and 19 and the pinions 23, 24 and 25.
Mountedin a recess 28 in the side wall of the casing is. a spindle 29 having a flattened end 29 extending there beyond, carrying at one end a sliding crank 30 having a recess 31 in which is enclosed a-springf32 abutting against the spindle 29 to normally press the crank outward.
In another recess 33 in the front wall 10 ofv the cabinet is a spring 34 positioned to normally distend a button 35 attached to a rod 36 which extends through the front wall into the recess 28 and abuts against the head of the crank 30 in a manner shown in F igure 5. In order to keep the rod from being forced out of the casing by the action of the spring 34, a collar 37 is rigidly attached thereto.
Also mounted on the spindle 29 is a roll 38 and at the end outside of the casing, is a gear 39 and a ratchet wheel 40 positioned intermediate the side wall and the gear 39.
Securely held just above the ratchet 40 is a stop 41 to engage therewith in a manner to prevent the mechanism from revolving in an opposite direction.
Firmly connected to the inner side wall is another stop 42 adjacent the recess 28 designed to project into the path of the sliding crank 30 thus effectively preventing the roll 38 from revolving when the device is not in use and also to limit the degree to when a fresh length of the towel is exposed.
, Journalled in the stop 42 are two guide rolls 43 and 44 and below these, and to the rear is another guide roll 45.
Horizontally in alinement with, and to the rear of the spindle 29 is another spindle 46, extendingat one end, beyond the side wall carrying a roller 47 and a gear 48 at its end.
Between the spindles 29 and 46 and below the same is a roll 49 adapted to receive a roll of toweling 50 the same being made preferably of a textile fabric.
At convenient places, guide bars 51 and 52 are journalled in the casing to keep the toweling 50 straight and smooth.
Positioned between the spindle 17 and the recess 28 is another recess 53 in which is self-adjustably engaged a guide roll 54 to keep the-soiled towel on theroll 417 in an orderly position. V.
Mounted on the outerside wall in the up perinost part are two id1ers'55 and 56 aiding in the guidance of an-endless chain 57 which ing alength of the towel 50 proportionately equal to the length of the are through which the crank 30' passes. At the same-time the roller l7 revolves taking on it thesoilcd' portion of the towel, due to'the action of the chain. a
Each time that the deviceis usedanew display is brought into view at the windows 12 untiltheentire screen has'been shown; then the displays start allover again.
Although the above has been gone into with considerable detail, it isdescriptive andillustrative-only, notehmitative, as obviously many minor changes may be made Having thus described niy invention, what I claiinas new and desire to secure by Let-' ters Patent, is
A towel service device, consisting? in combination with a casing,.of a. pair ofrollers, a rolt of clean toweli-ng adapted to engage one of said rollers, the other of said rollers receiving the soiled toweling, a plurality of guide rolls and bars in position to guide said toweling, a spindle jonrnalled in the easing having .ahfiattened'end, a sliding crank mounted on said fiattenedend, astop in the casing projecting. into the path of said sliding crank, a spring pressed buttonin the front wall, and-a rod attached to said button to abut against the head of said sliding. crank -to disengage the sanieifroin: the path of said stop. 7
In witness whereof I haveaffixed my signature.
