Description

M. McGAUGHY.
ROLL SCREEN SUPPORT.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 28,1920.

I 6 5 INVENTOR- A TTORNE Y.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ROLL-SCREEN SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented NOV, 30, 1920.
Application filed June 28, 1920. Serial No. 392,447.
To alt w from it may concern g 7 Be it known that I, MiinsHALL hlCiiAUGl-IY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at I). ff .7 1 I! T If i me Jill 111 t 1c county or 1 er cison an thereof are reeled and measured off and an object of the invention to provide a simple, eflicient and practical. device of this kind which is capable of being cheaply made and sold at a reasonable profit.
Another and very important object is to provide a device of this character so constructed as to accommodate the narrowest and the widest screen roll whereby'cuts or portions thereof may be easily reeled and measured off. it being the aim to provide a support of this character to be fastened upon the counter so that in connection with a suitable measuring scale (which maybe carried by or marked upon the counter) the wire fabric maybe measured as it is reeled off. p
While there are machines more convenient for handling large quantitiesof wire fabric or cloth, they are more or less clumsy and complicated in construction for handling smaller quantities in View of the fact that seventy-five per cent. of the sales of such material run from one to six yards more or less; therefore, the invention aims to provide a very simple device whereby the smaller quantities of wire fabric may be reeled or measured 01f.
Still another object is to provide a support comprising a frame to'be fastened upon the counter, one end being closed and the other end open, so that the maximum length of roll of wire fabric may be supported therein and yet capable of being reeled or measured off.
A further object is to provide a support for roll wire fabric including a plurality of rollers to revolubly support the roll wire fabric and in such manner that the end of the fabric may pass over one roll and be measured oil", the other rolls acting to support the roll of fabric and thereby reduce the friction to a minimum.
While the design and construction at present illustrated and set forth is deemed preferable, it is obvious that as a result of a reduction of the invention to a more practical form for'commercial purposes, the invention may be susceptible to changes, and the rightlto these changes is claimed, provided they are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises further features and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed. a
In the drawings 'Figure 1 is a view in perspective of the improved roll wire fabricsupport constructed in accordance with the invention and showing the same applied to a counter looking at the same from the customers side,
so as to more clearly show the open end of the support, and furthermore to show clearly certain of the rollers on which the roll screen operates.
Fig. 2 is an end View showing the open endof the support; and
Fig. 3 1s a cross sectional view on line 33 of Fig. 1.
. Referring to the drawings, 1 designates the support as a whole which comprises the supporting end plates 2 and The end plate 2 at its end is provided withright angle flanges & and the lower ends of these flangesterminate in lateral lugs 5 toreceive fastening screws 6, whereby the support may be secured to a counter or other Sta-- tionary support. The other end plate 3 is provided with right angled flanges 7 which have at their lower ends lateral lugs 8 which also receive fastening screws to additionally secure the support to the counter.
Side pieces 9 and 10 are provided and arranged'in parallelism and have their ends secured by screws or the like 11 to the right angle flanges of the end plates thereby providing the supporting frame for the antifrictional roller 13 and. 14. The rollers 13 are disposed adjacent the lower part of the supporting frame and have their pintles journaled in bearings of the end plates. These rollers 13 act to support the roll of fabric or screen while the other roll 14 is designed to be engaged by the fabric or screen as it is reeled and measured off.
The rollers 13 and 14 act to reduce the friction to a minimum. It will be noted that .pullin' the end plate is cut away as shown so as to leave one end of the supporting frame open. It is to be understood that the supporting frame may be made any suitable width, height and length. Preferably the supporting frame is designed to be constructed in the proportion illustrated in the drawin say for instance, in order to accommodate a medium length of roll, about thirty inches in length so that shorter or minimum lengths of rolls as Well as a maximum .or longer length .of roll may .be supported in the same the plate 0 ,ric or screen xvi-ll not touch this edge and thereby permit the roll to easily rotate as a I action is imparted to the fabric. In other WOlilS, the idea of lowering the mar oinal ed e of the arcuate ortion of the late L) 3 viii prerent the edge of the plate from retarding the action of the roll of fabric as it rotates.
The roll fabric support is designed to be fastened on the counter in close position to a measuring scale so that as the fabric is reeled-01f, it is easily and readilymeasured.
The end portion .of the fabric :may be rolled up as the fabric is unreeledland measured thereby making the process of selling small cuts of the fabric very easy and conrenient and owing to the oonstruetion of is below the periphery of the lower rollers l 3 so that the roll of wire fabsuch a support and the manner of using the same, the sales of such material may be quickly transacted.
In the use of'this improved support it is to be noted that it may be fastened to the counter in position relatively to the measuring scale so that the operator can stand adjacent the closed end of the supporting frame, whereby the Wire fabric may be passed over the upper roller let and measured off on the scale which carried by or marked upon the counter adjacent one side nearest the operator.
The invention having been set forth, vvh at is claimed as new and useful is As a new article of i i-anuf cture. an elongated frame of a length approximating the width of a store counter and adapted to be secured on said counter, elongated supporting rolls approximating the length of and ournalcd 1n the bottom of the frame to support-a roll Wire fabric, an additional roll of a length corresponding to the length of the frame and mounted adjacent the top edge of one side of the frame, the upper elongated part of the frame being open to permit the fabric to pass over the additional roll, the inner end of the frame being closed the outer end of the frame having an opening, to permit a maximum length of roll fabric to extend therethrough, so as to operate upon the supporting rolls, the lower edge of the opening having an arcuate contour of a radius greater than the curvature of the roll fabric, to keep the roll fabric out (of contact-With the edge, and to allou the roll fabrlc to easily rotate, thereby preventing retardation of the roll fabric in its revoluble movements.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
