DOUBLE-DRUM HoIsT.
`application met July 15,
This invention `relates to double drum hoists of the type in ywhich one drum or the other is automatically "connected to be driven from a reversible motor in accordance with the direction of rotation of the motor.
The object ofl the present invention 'is to enable `a double ended rocking pawl or clutch member to be finounted on a main driver located at one end of one of the drums so that the pawl may rock through a plane offset from and paralleling theaxis of ro'- tation of the drive shaft. Otherobjects will appear hereinafter. yThe invention is illustrated in one of its preferred forms in the accompanying draw- 1ngs,inwhich Figure l isa sectional elevation of a holst, Figure 2 is a transverse sectional elevation taken 'through Figure 1 'i on the line 2.0 2 2 looking in the direction of thearrows, and i Figure 31s a plan view` partly ,in section taken through Figure 2 `on the line 3``3 looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings, A` designates a base plate of the hoist on the opposite ends of which are/mounted end frames B and C. The end frame C in this instance also serves as a housing for a motor D of thefflat piston type, sometimes called the ",Dake motor.
The invention, however, is not confined to Y 0 extends coaxlallythrough the center" bearthe particular'type of'motor illustrated and any suitable reversible motor may be sub-y stitued therefor. In this Vinstance a valve chest E secured to the end frame C by means of suitable bolts F serves as avclosure for one side of the motor D.
Pressure fluid for'actuating the' motoi-D is conveyed to the valve chest E through a connection G and the distribution or admission of such pressure fluid to the motor may be controlled by any suitable valve `(not shown), intended to be actuatedby-a reversing lever I-I.v The frames B and 'C in other and in addition a substantial Abearin is provided by the center bearingfor a hau age drum P and a tail rope drum Qmounted side by side. An extenslonR is formed on of any well known `type which` interlock "with similar clutch teeth T carried by a this instance are braced at their upper ends by a tie rod J which extends through ythe 192e. serial No. 122,676.`
and are screwed into the ,plate O.` By thus securing the center bearing L in the manner described, the -frames `B and C are rigidly supported and braced with respect to each the haulage drum P and has clutch teeth S sleeve 'U of a toothed drum driver `V` for `transmitting rotary movement of the said drunidriver to the drum l?. Y The sleeve -U of the 'drum driver V is in this instance of l70 the same external diameter as the extension R wherewith it cooperates to form 'a full bearing for the tail rope drum Q.
Suitableimeans are provided for checking Y or retarding rotation of the drums whenever one drum or the other `of the drums is disconnectedfrom the driving element. `To `r this end the drum Q, is provided with an annular lateral flange W and the drum .P`
has a flange Y on which arel mounted brake bandsfZand b. The brake bands Z and b are referablyof the type which encircle the anges W` and Y and maybe manipulated in any suitable and well known man ner. f
y y In the present instance a main drive shaft ing L and is connected at one end to the the drive shaft c is supported in the end of l the center bearing by an anti-friction bear?` y ing e. A similarr anti-friction bearing is also provided forthe drive shaft c forthe` end of said drive shaft adjacent the motor. To the outer end of the drive shaft o is keyed .a driving pinion f which is rotatable in a gear box g in the frame B and meshes withan intermediate gear la. mounted on a n shaft The shaft y' in this instance is provided atits endsy with anti-friction bearings is ando supported by the frame'B and carries at its inner end a pinion p which meshes with `an internal gear g of a main driver o'.
In accordance with the present invention a bearing s is formed on the main driver 0?105 y 'pawls instancebeing .adapted to rotatecin the saine transverse plane."` "On the oplosite sidesof the bearing .s are arranged pawl members u and o." These members" are preferably ot' symmetric al `torination and `are arranged to" extend inoppcsite `directions so that-"- Athe i paWl is in ei'ect a double ended pawl.` `lllese pawls are preferably held in assei'ribled`po-` sition and pivoted on thebea-iing;as byiafbolt w which extends therethrough and is provided uwith d a suitable.mnt-mm1whereby the d e and tver@ @lampedinniesition. Alhe i, bolt `fw =is preferably disposed radially with respect to theclongitndinal axis oit the `main driver r, so `:that i the paivls fia and y a; will oscillate in `planes- `parallel with trespect to d This adds `to the expense of maintenance of thelhoist and at times greatly interferes with the service for the reason that such parts are not at all times readily available. By form- :ing the pawlmembersseparately the `present instance, fthese Allmembers may in terchangedone for the other m case one of the paivls show signs ot greater wear than the other, `or avneimpawl may be substituted for the worn paivl.
