IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-TIE FASTNERS.
Specification forming part of Lettsrs Patent No. 165,155, dated July 13, 1875; application filed June 12, 1875.
To all whom -it mag/ concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. HARRNG- TON, ot' Providence, in the county ot' Providence and 'State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and Improved Neck -Tie Fastener, of which the following is a specifica-tion:
My invention consists of a pair ot' gripingfingers pivoted together, and contrived to clutch round the shank ot' a collar-stud or the thread fastening a button, and hold thereon by a spring, the lingers being so attached to the tie that it may hang down below the fingers to afford access to them for readily connectin g them to the button, and, after the tingers are attached, be shifted up in front, and be adjusted under the collar, and be held up by it.
Figure l is an elevation of the tie as when the fastener is being attached. Fig. 2 is a section of Fig.`1 on line a; x, and Fig. 3 is a section on line y y.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the tie, which may be of any approved kind. B represents the griping-ngers; C, the button or stud; D, the collar, and E the spring connecting the ngers to the tie, said spring being in this example an elastic, but it may be of other, material. This spring also pulls the fingers together, and closes and holds the griping end on the stud or button shank. It is fastened to the lower edge of the shield F, so as to let the tie hang when attaching it out of the way otl the fingers, and to allow it to be turned up under the collar and in front of the ngers after being attached.
To detach the tie, it is only necessary to put the thumbs under the tie, and force the tin gers B apart. To make a neat connection of the elastic with the fingers, they are constructed with a socket, H, at one end, in which thc elastic is secured by a knot; but any other approved fastening may be employed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A necktie fastener consisting of cross-pivoted fingers, curved at their upper ends to form an aperture for stud-shank, and connected at their other ends,by a spring, to each other, and to the lower edge of a necktie shield, substantially in the ina-nner and for the purpose specified.
