Description
Dec. 13, 1927. 1,652,674
c. E. KEAS CORNER BEAD Filed May 11. 1926 Patented Dec. 13, 1927.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES ELWOOD KEAS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO ECONOMY PRODUCTS CORPORATION, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, A CORPORATION OF CALI- FORNIA.
CORNER IBEAD.
Application filed May 11, 1926.
My invention relates to corner bead formed from flat sheet metal and has for its principal object to provide a corner bead of simple and economical construction which can be easily bent to conform to round forms, such as arches, with the bead forming the corner or edge of said form to give protection to the corner in the usual manner. Another object of my invention is to provide a corner head in which the bead or body part thereof has along its corner-engaging side, extending longitudinally thereof, two flangelil-:e 30rtions, disposed at an angle to each other, whereby to fit around opposite sides of a corner structure with the bead portion directly forming the corner. To provide in connection with a corner bead of the character referred to, and preferably as an integral part thereof, attaching wings spaced along the same to be used in securing said corner head in place along a corner, whether straight or curved.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the following description of one embodiment of my invention, here shown for descriptive purposes on the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of av section of a corner bead embodying my invention igure 2 is a uection of the blank before it 1s formed into a corner bead, and
Figure 3 is a view showing the application of my improved corner bead to a corner of round form.
Referring in detail. to the drawings, my inuproved corner head is preferably stamped from sheet metal, at, in the form shown in Fig. 2, leaving the attaching wings, 5, 5, spaced along the middle portion, designated 6, with the notches, 7, 7, formed along the opposite edges of said middle portion, substantially as illustrated, when the portions indicated in light broken lines and designated, 8, 8, are stamped therefrom. I have conceived the idea of making corner beads in Serial No. 108,275.
such a way that the Waste material, that is, the portions, 8, 8, which would otherwise be thrown away, can be used for other purposes, such as forming spacing members similar to that shown and described in my pending application, Serial Number 99,651.
The middle portion of said blank, as seen in Fig. 2, is formed into the bead, 9, while the side portions, or those portions in which the notches, 7, 7, are formed constitute two flange-like portions to fit or straddle a corner and thus give a firm bearing or anchorage of the corner head around the corner to which it is applied.
A big advantage of this form of corner bead is that it makes it possible to bend the same to conform to a corner of curved form, as illustrated in Fig. 3, thus providing a corner bead which the workman can readily adapt to all corners in a neat and workmanlike manner, whether the corner be straight, angular or round in form. The head 9, with the comparatively narrow flange-like portions, designated 9*, 9, can be fit snugly on to a corner structure, and because of its construction and size, it can be easily bent to conform to a round form. I
\Vhile I have shown but one form or embodiment of the invention for explanatory purposes, I do not limit my invention to the details shown, except as I may be limited by the hereto appended claim.
lVhat I claim is:
A corner bead formed of sheet metal rolled longitudinally to form a bead, the two edge portions being formed into two flange-like members lengthwise thereof and being notched, whereby said corner bead can be bent laterally because of said notches to conform to corners of round form, and means for securing said corner head to a corner with its flange-like members straddling said corner.
Signed at Los Angeles. Los Angelcs County, California, this 6th day of May, 1926.
CHARLES ELW'OOD KEAS.
