ATTACHMENT FOR ALARM CLOCKS.
Application filed October 19, 1925.
The invention relates to an attachment for alarm clocks adapted to be used for automatically controlling draft door dampers and the like at a predetermined time.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple construction which may be readily attached to the ordinary alarm clocks as commercially manufactured.
Another object is to provide an arrange ment whereby the clock may be secured in a convenient position for controlling the draft mechanism and at the same time providing access to the winding and setting mechanism.
A further object is to provide means for limiting the angular movement of the alarm key so that the alarm mechanism will cease operation as soon as the trip for operating the damper is released. 7
These and other objects are attained by providing the novel construction as hereinafter set forth:

Referring more specifically to the particular embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawings the attachment comprises the mounting plate 1 which is adapted to be secured to the alarm clock in a suitable manner. The plate is provided with a cut away central portion 2 for providing access to the winding and setting mechanism of the clock. As shown, the cut away portion is of substantially rectangular shape and at the two lower corners thereof there are provided the laterally bent ears 3 and l respectively. The plate is also provided with the laterally extending arm 5, the free end of which is slotted at 6 to engage the handle 7 of the clock. The two ears and the arm together form means for locating the attachment on the clock and each engages the outer cylindrical portion 8 thereof. For securing the attachment in position there is a band 9 extending diagonally across the clock face having the inwardly extending portions 10 terminating in the flanges 11, the latter being secured to the plate by the bolts and nuts 12.

an inwardly projecting arm arranged to extend in proximity to the winding key and to serve as a stop for limiting the angular movement thereof. This arm is preferably formed of a separate metallic strip secured to the plate by the screws 15 and having the upper portion 16 spaced from the plate 1 forming a guide for the lever 17. The lat" ter is fulcrumed on a pin 18 extending through the plate and the portion is. One end of the lever 17 projects outward slightly eyond the plate 1 and is provided with concave edges 19. The other end of the lever projects into the cut away portion of the plate and has a transversely extending flange 20 adapted to rest upon the winding key 13 when the latter is in vertical position. The arm lat also has a transversely extending flange 21 at the inner end thereof which also en ages the winding key 13 when in vertical position, but is arranged to permit a rotation of the winding key clockwise for a portion of a revolution. The upper edge 22 of the flange 21 forms a stop to prevent more than a limited angular movement of the key.
The attachment may be secured in a con venient position with respect to the draft operating mechanism and for this reason the plate has an extension 23 at one side thereof provided with the apertures through which screws or bolts may be inserted. In order to utilize the device for operating the draft doors or dampers, a chain 25 is at tached to the door 26 and passes over suitable pulleys'27 terminating in a ring 28. The ring 28 may be engaged in the concave portion 19 of the lever 17 when the latter has the transverse flange 20 resting on the alarm key. Upon the operation of the alarm, the key is angularly moved until it abuts the stop 22 thus releasing the lever 17 and allowing the weight of the draft door to pull the lever arm 17 upward until the ring slips off the edge of the lever.
Before assembling the attachment to the alarm clock the alarm fully wound, since after attachment the stop QZprevents unwinding of the same except through a limited angular movement. This construction prevents continue-d actuation of the alarm mechanism after the chain is released, thus insuring a quiet operating device.
One of the principal features of the attachment as above described is that it may oe readily attached. to commercia s. alarm clocks and in this way a dratt door operating mecha nism can be obtained at a minimum cost.
lt is obvious that the operating mechanism for the draft doors may be varied from the construction illustrated and. my inven'tion. is not limited to any particular type of door control, but is concerned with the features of construction of the attachment for alarm clocks.
Vhat I claim as my invention is 1. An attachment for alarm clocks including in combination a plate having a ceiitral cut away portion, a lever lnlcruined on said plate having one end projecting beyond hie outer edge thereof, a laterally bent portion on the opposite end of said lever tor engaging the winding key of the said clock, an arm extending from said plate into said cut away portion, and a laterally bent portion on the inner end of said arm forming a stop for limiting the angular movement oi said key in one direction.
2. An attachment for alarm clocks including a plate having a central cut away portion for receiving the projecting winding mechanism of the clock, a lever pivoted to said frame having a portion bearing upon the edge of the alarm key, an actuating member engaging the said lever and tending to turn the same about its pivot and a stop arranged to permit a limited angular movement of said key to permit turning of the said member by the actuating member and the subsequent releasing of the said actuating member.
3. An attachment for alarm clocks comprising a flat plate having a central cut away portion, a bracket secured to said plate having an end portion spaced from said plate, said bracket being provided with an integral arm extending inwardly into the cut away portion, a transversely extending flange on the inner end of said arm, a lever arranged between said bracket and said plate, a pin extending between said bracket and said plate for torn'iing a fulcrum for said lever, one end of said lever extending beyond said plate, and a trai'isversely extending flange on the opposite end of said lever adapted to engage the winding key of the clock.

An attachment for an alarm clockcomprising a Hat plate attachable exteriorly oi said clock and having a central cut-away portion, an ii'iwardly extending arm integral therewith, a transversely extending flange carried by said arm forming a stop adapted to limit the angular movement of the alarm key of said clock and a lever pivoted to said plate adapted to abut against said key and to be held in a fixed position thereby and to be released by the rotation of said key,
5. An attachment for alarm clocks including a plate, a lever pivoted thereto, means tending to turn the lever about its pivot, said lever bein adapted to normally bear against the alarm winding key of the clock to prevent movement of said lever about its pivot by the said means, the lever being released upon movement of the winding key by the alarm mechanism of the clock, and means carried by said plate and projecting into the path of travel of said key for limiting turning movement of the same.
6. An attachment for an alarm clock including a plate, a V-shaped bracket secured to said plate, a lever pivoted between the end of one arm of the V-shaped bracket and the plate, the said lever being engageable with the alarm Winding key of the clock, and a flange formed on the other end of the V-shaped bracket for limiting turning movement of the alarm winding key of the clock.
