Description

ITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JNO. C. FR. SALOMON AND GEO. E. COOPER, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
RIDING-SADDLE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 15,392, dated July 22, 1856.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN C. FR. SALO- MON and GEO. E. COOPER, of the city of Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invent-ed a new and useful Improvement in Volute-Spring and Metallic Seat Saddles; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in whichf A, represents a side view of saddle; B, a top or birds eye view; C, the pad with seat of movable volute spring; D, under or bottom view of saddle; E, connection rods with the seat of movable slide.
The nature of our invention consists 1n providing the upper part of any kind of a saddle tree, with a metallic seat fastened by two stationary swivel pins a, a. To the upper side on the left and right of the pummel under the metallic riding seat is placed a volute spring l). This spring is seated in a movable sliding chair c, to which are fastened two guiding rods d, d. Under the sliding chair and its rods and on the upper side of each pad is placed a sliding guide e.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention we Will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
We construct our saddle in any of the known forms, but in order to obviate the complication of such saddles, we have deviseda plan which insures durability, and combines simplicity with usefulness.
Letter B, in the accompanying drawings shows the metallic riding seat, by which is avoided all strapping and bolstering. This riding seat may be perforated with holes, and can be covered with any desirable material.
Letter C, is the saddle tree without the i riding seat, but the guide e, c, can be seen on each upper side of the pad. In those guides the chair with volute spring seat can be moved toward or' from the pummel or cantle to suit the Weight or convenience of the rider.
f is a supporting rod fastened at either end of the metallic seat, passing in the groove z', in the top center of the volute spring l), for the purpose of rendering the whole seat firm.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The movable volute Spring seat chair c, with its guiding rods d, el, and the guides c, c, in which the same is moved on the upper sides of the pads.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names.
JOHN C. FR. SALOMON. GEO. E. COOPER.
