Description

Patented May 19, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
CHARLES R. TOST, OF OENTERDALE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HADLEY COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
RIBBON-BRACELET CLASP.
Application'led October 9, 1924. Serial No. 742,519.
To al] whom if may concern.:-
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. Tosr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Centerdalo, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ribbon-Bracelet Clasps, of which thefollowing is a speciication.
This invention relates to certain new andA useful improvements in ribbon bracelet clasps and the primary object of the invention is to provide a clasp in which the male and female members are of simple and economical construction and wherein the male f member is of two part formation enabling same to be easily and quickly assembled.
A further object of the invention is to provide a male member construction wherein the.
objects which will be later herein set forthA and manifested in the course of the following description'.
In the drawings Figurel is a top plan view of the invenv g tion -the parts being connected and applied to a ribbon bracelet;
Figures 2 and 3 are sections respectively on line 2-2 of Fig. l and 3 3.: of igure 1.
Figure 4 shows a plan and Iside edge elevation of the male member, and Figure 5 is a detail perspective vi'ewof the head of the male member.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention the female member 1 is formed with a .substantially rectangular opening 2.
w with a longitudintal -slot 5 through which wardly at 10 to form shoulders which seat on the outer face of the bar 4;V and terminate in the parallel downwardly eX- tending le s 6. The legs 6 after being passed through te'slot 5 of bar 4 in abutting relation are turned 'or bent outwardly in op- ]oslt'e directions, thereby to clamp the shoul# ers l0 onto the bar 4, and holding the head 7 xedly in place. When the legs 6 are in their cllnched position as depicted in Fig.4 2 of the drawings, it will be seen that the sides 9 of the head converge toward the bar 4 and thus form a neck for the head receiving'the opening 2 of the female member.
From the foregoing it will be apparentl that the two opposed sides 9 of the head are possessed of considerable spring action and are restricted in their relative approaching and receding movements by virtue of the interposed depressed part 8 which serves to tension each of the sides 9 at one and the same tlme. y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a clasp, a female member having a loo rectangular opening, a male member having -which has a transverse depressed part and the ends of which are extended outwardly on opposite sides of the depressed art, then inwardly to form shoulders whic seatv on the outer face of the male member 'and are then extended rearwardly of the outer face of the de ressed part in parallelism to form legs whic latter are projected through the slot of the`male member in abutting relation and are extended in opposite directions and clinched against the rear face of the male member so as to clamp the head thereon.
2. In a clas a female member having an, opening a ma e member having a slot, andi! therewith.
a head having'sides 'and 44a depending `part testimony iqvhereof I. have. signed my interposed between and spaced from' the name to this specification in the presencel oft sides, the sides hzwingA shoulders and'legsljtwo subscribing witnesses. which latter extend throughtheslot in'abut; CHARLES R. TOST,- ting' relation and are` clinehed tothe -male Witnesses: v member so -as to holdthe shoulders engaged l QS. N. `Mc- NGE',
