H. ANDRIEU MUSIC LEAF TURNER Filed Sept. 7, 1922 l I I Swvew l 01 useful Patented May 19, 1925.
HENRI ANDRIEU, OF FALK, CALIFORNIA.
MUsIc-LEAr TURNER.
Application filed September 7, 1922. Serial No. 586,708.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRI ANDRIEU, a citizen of the United States, residing at Falk, in the county ofHumboldt and State of, California, have invented certain new and Improvements in a Music-Leaf Turner; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide :1 relatively simple and. efficient mechanism foruse in turning the leaves of music in connection with an instrument such as a piano or organ requiring the use of both hands of the performer but also adapted for use in connection with music stands or racks employed by soloists and performers in an orchestra; and with the indicated objects in view the invention consists in a construction, combination and relation of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in. the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a View fragmentarily showing a piano in front elevation with my invention shown diagrammatically and partly in section and applied thereto,
Figure 2 is a plan view partly in section showing the invention.
Figure 3 is a detail view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2, and
Figure 4' is a similar view taken "on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional View illus- 7 trating the pivotal connection of one of the leaf engaging clamps with the rider.
In Figure 1, which is diagrammatic in so far as the illustration of the wiring is concerned, there'is illustrated at 10 a combined support for the clamps 11 carried by the riders 12, and a guide for the wires or ropes 13 one end of each of said wires or ropes be in g secured to a rider. It will be understood that one or more of the riders carrying clamps l1 and the wires or ropes 13 will be employed according to the number of leaves it may be desired to turn successively in the performance of a single composition.
The clamps 11 have pivotal connection with the riders 1.2 to permit of the clamp which engages the leaf spring to swing with the leaf as it is turned from one position to another. Secured to the free end of each of the wires or ropes 13 is a core 14 of the solenoid magnet 15 into which the core is adapted to be drawn thus turning one of the leaves from a position at the right to a position at the left when the corresponding'circuit is closed. In the construction il lustrated the circuits in which the solenoid coils are included are represented at 16 and include a batterv 17 or like source of electrical energy and also include switch buttons 1.8 which are preferably arranged on the keyboard of the instrument and therefore within convenient reach of the hand of the operator resting on the keys in the ma nipulation of the instrument.
The combined support and guide 10 is in the form of a semi-circle the center or axis of which is the point occupied by the member 19 which holds the music sheets in place. The guide and support 10 is constructed from an angle member of metal or other suitable material and is provided on its vertical portion with a series of superimposed guide grooves 20 adapted to receive the wires or ropes 13 and to maintain the same in their relative spaced positions.
The riders'lQ are of angular outline and have horizontal portions 21 to seat or rest on the horizontal portion of the guide 10, and are also provided'at one end with offset or vertical portions 22, the vertical portions being of graduated length and having the wires 13 connected with respective riders. Intermediate portions 21 are bent to fit against the under side of the horizontal portion of the guide 10' and thereby prevent displacement of the riders, while the other end portion of the riders carry pivotally mounted clamps 11.
As shown the cores 1 1 of the solenoid are connected with respective wires 13 and the cores are of a length equal to the semi-circumference of the circle of which the guide 10 is a portion. The wires 13 are trained over guides 23 preferably in the form of pulleys and provide means whereby a sheet of music may be swung from the right to the left. The coils 15 are preferably e11- closed in a box or housing 23 of wood or other suitable material and are insulated one from another and from the box or the housing of metal by a suitable insulator such as tar.
It will now be understood that by closing a predetermined switch 18, the corresponding magnet will be energized and thus the corresponding sheet of music will he turned.
Having thus describedthe invention, what I claim as new is 5- l. A turning apparatus of the ol ass described having a combined channel-shaped support and guide riders movably mounted thereon provided with depending portions and disposed outwardly and adjacent thereto and terminating at differentelevations operating means connecting said depending portions adjacent their free ends, and grooves on the outer surface of said coinhined support and guide serving as guides for said means.
2. A turning apparatus of the class described having a combined channelshaped support and guide, riders movably mounted thereon provided with 1e ending portions and. .d erefs d q ti ly and.e iia e i and terminating at difl'erent elevations, op-
erating rneans oo nnecting said depending portions adiacent their free ends, and
grooves on the outer surface of said coinhined support and guide serving as guides for said means, said comhined support and n anni nnnrnu.
