PATENT OFFICE.
conrArivnn.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KITGHELL M. Boon- MAN, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at New York city, county of New York, borough of Manhattan, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Containers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification. a
My invention relates to containers and refers particularly tocontainers suitable for use with toilet preparations.
The advantages of containers capable of carrying a plurality of toilet preparations, such as powder compacts, powder puffs, lip sticks, eyebrow pencils, mirrors, &c. is evident and their use and employmenthas be come general.
Devices of this character must be strong and firm, in order that the fragile contents may not be broken, and hence, it is cus tomary to make them of metal and particularly of brass composition.
Containers of brass and metal construc tion have the disadvantage of being easily scratchedand marked, particularly because they areusually carried inbags with other articles and their beauty and appearanceis entirely, or at least partially, destroyed.
As all ofthe toilet preparations are replaceable, the container is used for a considerable length of time, and hence, is subjected to considerable wear.
The device of invention overcomes these objectionable features and presents a container in which the metal parts are protected from wear. l
My device comprises a flexible cover, containing and enclosing the metaltoilet preparation carrier, while maintaining the rigidity of construction necessary for the proper protection of the articles. 1 a
As my flexible cover can be made of leather, cloth, or other similar material, it allows of wide and extended artistic appearances and thus adds materially to the attractiveness of the container, which can not be obtained in the employment of metal.
The construction of my device allows of the convenient use of the toilet preparations with easy replacement of the articles as they are consumed.
In the accompanying drawings illustrating modifications of my device, similar parts are designated by similar numerals.
Figure 1 is a perspective view ofone form of my device in closed position. a
Figure 2 is a plan view'of the device of Figure 1 in extended open position. Figure 3 is a top view of the toilet preparation carrier of Figure 1, removed from the coverand without the toilet preparation articles. 1 l
Figure 4. is a section through the line 44 of Figure 2, the device being partially open. Figure 5 is a plan view of a modified form of my toilet preparation carrier. 1 I Figure 6 is a cross-section through line 6-6 of Figure 5. a
The particular form of the device of my invention, shown in Figures 1, 2, '3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings, comprises a flexible container cover composed of a onepiece bottom 10 and top 11. A flexible member; 12 is sewed around its two sides and bottom to the top piece llas indicated at 13, 13, 13and intermediate as indicated at 14. A cut-out 15 forms a pocket 16 between the member 12 and the top] 11. The space between the sewing lines 13, 14, 13 forms a compartment 17 for the insertion of a mirror 18 which shows through a cut-out portion 19 of the member 12.1The ex- A compartment capable of receiving a,
the
toilet preparation carrier is formed upon the bottom 10 by means of the member 21 connected to the bottom 10 by the sides 22, 22 and the end 23. A pair of projecting male members 24, 24, carried by the end 23 are capable of insertion within a, pair of female members '25, 25 carried by the end 20 to maintain the container cover in closed position, as shown in Figure 1. The mem- 9 ber 21 has two annular cut- outs 26, 27 and an elongated cut-out 28.
The container cover, therefore, comprises a bottom 10 carrying a compartment having three openings in the upper face thereof, the bottom being extended into a top having a pocket compartment and a mirror carrylng compartment, the top being capable of placement over and removable attachment to the bottom member.
The toilet preparation carrier comprises the bottom 29 extended upwardly into four sides 30, 30 and having a top member 31, in which there are fom'openings 32, and 34, these openings being so positioned that they will align with the openings 26, 28 and 27 respectively of the flexible container cover. Placeable Within the opening 32 is a cup 35 carrying the powder compact 36 and the powder puff 87, the flange 3,8 of the cup resting upon the top 31.
laceable Within the opening 33 is a cup 39 carrying the lip stick 40, the flange ll of the cup resting upon the top 31;
Placeable Within the opening 34 is a cup 42' ear-Tying the power cam er-er 43 and the powder puff 4A, the flange 45 of the cup resting upon the top 81.
As each of the above-mentioned cups is largerthan the corresponding opening in the container cover, the latter holds the cups from accidental displacement.
The modification of the toilet preparation carrier shown in Figures 5 and 6 comprises a stamped-out form of device having the bottom 46 the sides 47, 47 and the top 4'8, the top having the recesses or depressions 49, 5O arid 5'1 capable of receiving powder compact, a lip stick and a powder pufi respectively, these devices being cemented, or glued, therein. 7 From the above it will be seen that my device c m r'ise s a leather, or other flexible, onminerceveri inga compartment therein for a removable toilet preparation carrier, the preparations being capable of use witheutre'moval of the carrier, the container cover having also a compartment for a removable mirror capable of use Without removal from the cover.
I do not limitniysel'f to "the particular size, shape, number, material, or arrangeinent of parts, as shown and described, as these are given simply as a means for describing the device of my invention.
YVhat I claim is 1 In a container, in combination,- a flexible cover having a bottom portion and a top portion, the top portion being capable of being folded over and upon the bottom portion, a compartment carried by the inner face of the bottom portion having a plurality of exposed openings therein, a removable toilet preparation carrier within the bottom compartment having a plurality of openings in its upper face corresponding to the openings of the cover and a receptacle carrying cup Within each carrier opening.
2. In a container, in combination, a flexible cover having a bottom aortion and a top portion, the top portion eing capable of being folded over and upon the bottom portion, a compartment carried by the inner face of the bottoi-n portion having a plurality of exposed openings therein, a removable toilet preparation carrier Within the bottom compartment having a plurality of openings in its upper face corresponding to the openings of the cover, and a receptacle carrying cup Within each carrier opening, the openings oi the cups being of smaller dimeneions than theopenings of the cover.
3. In a container, in combination, a flexible' cover having a bottom portion and a top ortion, the top portion being capable of being folded over and upon the bottom portion, a compartment carried by the mner face of the bottom'portion having a plurality of exposed openings therein, a removable toilet preparation carrier Within the bottom compartment having a plurality of openings in its upper face corresponding to the openings of the cover, a receptacle carrying cup Wltllli'i each carrier opening and a mirror carrying compartn'ient carried on the inner face oft-he top portion of the cover.
Signed at New York city in the county of New York and State of New York this 29th day of April, 1924.
