UNITED STATES HENRY A. SQUAIRES. OF ROCKWELL CITY, IOWA.
LABEL-PLATE ATTACHMENT FOB- LABEL-PASTING MACHINES.
T all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. SQUAIRES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockwell City, in the county of Calhoun and State of'I'owa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in LabeL Plate Attachments for Label-Pasting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
In carrying out the present invention it is my purpose to provide an attachment particularly adapted for association with the Burt or similar pasting machines, the primary object thereof residing in such an attachment wherein the ends of the labels may be expeditiously raised during the operation of the machine for overcoming the usual necessity of inserting shims beneath the ends of these labels for effecting this purpose, this procedure now necessitating the stop ping of the machine entailing a considerable loss of time.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such an attachment that f it may be attached to labeling-machines in a simple and expeditious manner, the attachment being of a relatively simple nature, the same embodying the few parts and thus co-relating in such a manner as to reduce the liability of derangement to a minimum.
The nature and advantages of the inven tion will be better understood when the following'detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing inthe construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings, forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of my attachment per se.
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof, the same being shown as attached to the table portion of a well known type of a labelingmachine.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figures 4 and 5 are perspectives of elements comprised in the invention, and
Figure 6 is a detail perspective view of the nut and pin adapted to be associated therewith.
Referring to the drawings in detail, 5 designates the usual square shape table plate Serial No. 533,448.
now found upon all standard labeling-machines, this element, however, being not of the essence of my invention, but shown for permitting of the more adequate relationship of my invention thereto. My label plate attachment comprises a pair of relatively elongated plates 6 that are positioned in spaced relation to each other upon the top side of said table plate 5 of the labeling-machine and secured thereto through the medium of detachable connections 7.
The outer ends of each of these plates are provided with slots 8 to which extend upwardly and rearwardly extending spaced legs 9 upon one end of a plate 10. This plate 10 is rockingly supported beneath the plates 6 through the medium of a cross pin that is passed through a cross slot 12 within said plate and has its projecting ends engaging through openings in pendent ears 13 of said plates 6. Upon the rearwardly extending portions of the legs 9 is a cross plate 141 upon which is adapted to be positioned the ends of the labels, this plate being secured to said legs 9 through the medium of rivets or other suitable securing means 15, the legs 9 being provided with openings 16 and the plate 14: with openings 17 for the reception of said securing means.
Adjacent to the front end of the plate 10, the same is provided with a screw threaded opening 18 through which extends a right and left hand screw threaded post 19 provided with an operating wheel 20, it being, oi course, understood that the threads of the opening 18 are right hand threads for receiving the complementary threads adjacent the lower end of said post 19.
The inner edges of the plates 6 are formed with notches 21, the side walls of which carry projecting {pins 22 for engagement within channels 24 upon adjacent sides of a nut 23 the threads of the nut being left hand receiving the threads upon the upper ends of said post 19, whereby when this post is rotated in opposite directions, a quick adjustment will be imparted to the label supporting plate 1 1 for adjusting the ends of these labels with respect to the plates 6. In that the nut 23 is provided at its opposite side with channels which receive the pin 22, the nut may have ivotal movement upon the said pin, and t e nut may slide across the pin, when the post 19, is turnedin the nut,
In view of the above description, it is believed by me that the advantages and operation of a label pasting machine attachment of this nature will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the art and although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without de parting from the spirit and scope of my invention as claimed.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A label supporting device comprising -a support proper, spaced plates mounted thereon and provided with slots leading in from the ends thereof, a nut movably mounted between adjacent edges of the plates and bridging the space between the plates, a plate pivotally mounted at a point between its ends below the first mentioned plates and having legs which extend through the slots in the first mentioned plates, a plate mounted upon the upper ends of the legs and disposed above the first mentioned plates and bridging the space between said plates, and a threaded post passing through the plate which is located below the spaced plates and having screw threaded engagement therewith, said post also having screw threaded engagement with the said nut.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
HENRY A. SQUAIRES.
