STEAVEN D. JERABEK, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
BATTERY-CONDITION REGISTER.
Application filed September 29, 1923. Serial No. 665,608.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEAVEN D. JERABEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Battery-Condition Register, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a storage battery condition register, and .the objects of my invention are: first, to rovide a register of this class which may he readily positioned at any convenient place on the vehicle for occasionally reminding the operator when the battery is to be tested and also for registering the reading of the hydrometer at the last testing; second, to provide a register of this class which may be readily secured to the dashboard of a vehicle and which may be easily operated from the drivers seat; third, to provide a register of this class in which the members provided with various inscriptions are fric-tionally held in position by means of springs which force said members against the enclosing casings; fourth, to provide a register of this class in which certain portions of one of the easing members project through the dashboard of the vehicle, positioning the same thereon, and which portions serve to revolubly slipport the registering members and the kno s for operating the same; fifth, to provide a novelly constructed register of this class, and sixth, to provide a storage battery condition register which is very simple and economical of construction, durable, and which wil not readily deteriorate or get out 0f or er.
With these and other objects in view, as'
and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference being had to the accomfpanving drawings and to the charac; ters 0 Figure 1 is an end elevational view of my register secured to the dashboard of a vehiole, showing the dashboard fragmentarily and in section to facilitate the illustration; Fig. 2 is a front clevational view of my register positioned on the dashboard, showing the same fragmentarily and also showing certain parts and portions of the casing. of the register broken away and in section to 'backwardlg reference thereon, which form a partof this application, in which:
facilitate the illustration, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof taken through 33 of F i 2.
Like characters of reference refer to similar parts and portions throughout the several views of the drawings.
The casing members 1 and 2, dashboard 3, nut 4, discs 6 and 7, disc su porting members 8, and the springs 9 and 10, constitute the principal partsand portions of my reglster structure.
The casing member 1, of my register, consists of a plate which forms the base of the same and is positioned against the front face of the dashboard 3 of a vehicle. Said casing member is provided with a plurality of hollow, backwardly extending bosses 1 and I 1*. The boss 1, being externally threaded and positioned in-the middle of the casing member,- extends through the dashboard and secures the member 1 in position on the dashboard by means of a nut 4. The other hollow bosses 1", spaced from the boss 1*, also extend through the dashboard as shown in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings. The bosses 1 and 1 serve as journals for the disc supporting members 8 which extend therethrough and are provided at their extending ends with knurled knobs 8 or rotating the same. The forwardly extended ends'of the members 8 are preferably reduced and externally threaded and screwed into the middle portions 7 of the registering members or discs 5, 6 and 7. The disc 5 .is provided with inscri tions of months of the year, and the disc spaced therefrom and sup orted on a member 8 extending throu h t e other boss 1, is inscribed with t e days of the month. The exterior or front casing member 2 is frictionally secured to the casing member 1 and forms an enclosure for the discs 5, 6 and 7 The casing member 2 is provided with mental openings 2' and 2 through wh i ch, respectively, the names of the months and the days of the month may be seen. Positioned between each of the discs 5 and 7 and the casing member rand around the bosses on the back sides .of said discs are the springs 9, which are adapted to position said discs against the inside of the casing memher 2. The disc supporting member 8 extending through the middle, hollow boss 1, is constructed similarly to the other mem bers 8 and is secured at its forward end to ventional readings of the hydrometer for testing the storage battery. The cas ng member 2 is provided with a third opening 2 at the lower, middle portion of the same through which the inscriptions of said latter disc may be seen and registered. A spring 10 is also positioned between the disc 6 and the casing member 1v for forcing said disc against the discs 5 and 7 for frictionally securing the same in position when rotated by the knurled knob at the rear end of the member 8, supporting the same.
It is obvious from this construction as illustrated in the drawings and described in the foregoing specification that there is provided a register for registering the condition of the storage battery of the vehicle and for reminding the operator when the battery is to be tested or filled, as set forth in the objects of the invention, and though I have shown and described a particular construction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, I do not wish to be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement, but desire to include in the scope of my invention the construction, combination and arrangement substantially as set forth in the appended claims.
v Having thus described my invention, what- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
