UNITED STATES PATENT QEEICE.
ALEXANDER M. LE VINO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part ot Letters Patent No. 152,498, dated June 30, 1874; application led May 23, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER M. LE VINO, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pocket-Book, of which the following is a specitcation:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 represents a top view of my improved pocketbook with opened sections; Fig. 2, a detail horizontal section through a gusset, showing connection of partitions with the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse section of the pocketbook on the line c c, Fig.` l; and Fig. 4, a top view of blank of partitions, with gusset-connecting side ilaps or tongues.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to an improvement inl pocket-books, by which they may be manufactured without stitching, in a neater and more durable manner; and it consists in the connection ofthe partitions, ivhich are made of a continuous blank, with sector-shaped extension side ilaps or tongues, arranged symmetrically at each section thereof', with the outer side iiaps or gussets.
In the drawing, A represents my improved pocketbook; B, the partition; and C, the outer side lia-ps or gussets, ot' semicircular, oval, or other shape. The partitions B are stamped or otherwise cut otl a blank, D, of rectangular shape, and any suitable material used in the manufacture ofpocket-books. The blank D is provided at both sides of each partition-section with sector-shaped extension iiaps or tongues D', arranged symmetrically in such a manner that the tongues Dl of two adjoining partition-sections form together the inside covering or lining of one sector-section of the gusset, each tongue being equal in size to one half of the gusset-sector of a pocketbook section. One of the connecting-tongues D has, furthermorefa narrow overlapping strip or pasting-edge, a, by which. the joint ofthe tongues may be pasted on the gusset Without being perceptible.
The main advantage of a pocket-book constructed in this manner consists in the eXtension of the partitions across the full width ot' the same, and its exposure to wear and tear at the outer edges ot' the partition being the points ot' greatest resistance, While the sections ot` the side iiaps or gussets are folded or crimped to the inside, and thereby fully protected. rlhe width ot' the pocket-book is thereby increased, and the durability and neatness ofthe same considerably enhanced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- As an article otl manufacture, a pocket-book the base or body of which is made up from a single blank, formed as shown in Fig. 4, which has end aps D', each alternate one ot' which is extended to form a lap or joining edge, a., which forms the seam uniting iap to iiap to form the pockets, substantially as herein described.
