Description
D. MATER, Jr..l Saying-Machines. Pim-152,392. A Patenutedlune23,1874,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DANIEL MATER, JR., OF BELLMORE, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SAWING-MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,392, dat-ed June 28, 137.1; application filed .Tune 13, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DANIEL MATER, J r., ot' Bellmore, in the county of Fark and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sawing-Machines; and I do hereby d( clare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a lever sawing-machine, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of my sawing-machine, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view of a part of the operating mechanism. A represents the bed-piece of my machine, upon which is pivoted or hinged the lower end of a slotted 1e- Aver, B. Upon a pin or stud, a, in the slot on the lever B, are. placed a roller, a, and two disks, d d-one at each end of the roller. C represents a slotted arm, passing over the roller b between the disks d d. From near the lower end of this arm projects a rod, f, to which the saw D is fastened, the outer or t'ront end of said rod being connected with the upper end of the slotted arm by a brace, h. A guiderod, Gr, extends in the opposite direction from near the lower end of the arln C, and this rod passes through an eye, fi, attached to or formed on a stirrup, m, adjusted, by means of a setscrew, n, up and down on a standard, E, rising from the bed-piece A. H represents the ordinary dog for holding the log while sawing.
During operation, the bed-piece A is to befastened to the ground by one or more stakes, p, as shown in Fig. 1. The lever B is then worked back and forth, the roller b thereby being moved up and down in the slotted arm C, and gives the necessary motion to the same, and thereby also to the saw. The eye t' is swiveled in the stirrup m, and, therefore, al-'V lows the guide-rod G to accommodate itself to the descent of the saw in the log for anyA ordinary distance. By adjusting the guide-- rod up or down on the standard E, by means of the stirrup m and set-screw'n, the saw may be set for any sized lon. A handle may be attached to the upper end of the lever B, as shown by dotted lines in Fig. l, enabling the operator to stand by the side of the log and operate the machine. The dog H is adjustable on the bed A, as shown in Fig. 1.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combina-tion of the slotted lever B, provided with the roller b, pin a, and disks d d, with the slotted arm C, provided with guiderod G, rod j', and brace h, dog H, standard E, stirrup m, and set-screw u, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
Titnessesz DANIEL MATER, JR.
C. H. WATSON, L. L. Bonn.
