UNITED STATES PATENT oFFicE.
HENRY A. PETER, OF PHILADELIHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO PIONEER SUSA- IPENDER COMPANY, CORPORATION OF PENNSYLVANIA.
DISPLAY BOX.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY A. PETER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and useful Display Box, of which the following is a'specilication.
My invention relates to combinations disproved means for packing, transporting and retaining for display a combination set of articles, a's for instance, for mens wear, such as a belt, a belt buckle and a pair of garters.
The invention comprises a main container or box, having a lid adapted to assume an open. and a closed relationship therewith, and provided with means forming compartments or sub-containers adapted to receive and maintain, in proper relationship,`the several articles to be displayed.
Referring to the drawings, which illustrate merely by way of example, suitable means for effecting my invention Fig 1 is a viewiin perspective of the box or container with the lid in the open position and also with the garter retainer removed, showing the articles for display inproper relative positions.
Fig. 2 is a section on lines 2, 2 of Fig. 1, with the lid in closed position and the garter retainer in operative position.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3, 3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 4, 4 of Fig. 2.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views'.
The main box or container comprises theA body portion 5, having the bottom flange G, and the lid 7 hinged to one of the longer marginal bottom edges, as at 8.- The body portion 5 is also provided with a transverse partition 9, dividing the box portion proper into two compartments, 10'and 11. Within compartment 11 is provided a formation 12, open at the top and having a bottom 13,
raised above the bottom of the body portion 5. A retainer element 14, having vertical Walls and a horizontal ange with a central opening, is adapted -to fit snugly within compartment 10. The lid element 7 is adapted to it snugly over the side walls of the box portion 5. The outer surface of the side walls of the lid'element 7 are substantially The object is to provide im- Application filed May 12, 1923. Serial No. 638,464.
flush with the outer margins of theliangc i portion 6, when said lid is in closed position.
The spacebetwcen formation 12 and the side walls of compartment 11 is adapted to receive the belt 15, while the receptacle foi-ined in the top of formation 12 is adapted to receive the belt buckle 16. The elements .being so proportioned that the top surface of the buckle 16 will lie substantially flush, or in the same horizontal plane, with the top margin of the coil of the belt 15. The raised bottom 13,for supporting the buckle 16, is usually covered with velvet,
satin or other suitable fabric, as is usual in containers for devices of precious or semiprecious metals.
The retaining element 14 is adapted and propo-i'tioned to lit snuglyT over the lid 17 of a garter box 18.
In assembling these elements, for positioning the parts in accordance with the present invention, the lid 17 is removed from its closing position upon the box 18, and is telescoped upon the box from its bottom side, so that the box-and lid will be associated with the box in open condition, displaying its contents, as forexample, a pair of garters as shown, upon a card, as at 20, and held in such associated relationship by means of a band 21 connected to the card 20. This arrangement tends to hold the garters in folded and associated relationship upon the card 2O which lits snugly within box 1S. The cntainer element 14 which lits over the outer side walls of lid 17, and which is provided with the horizontal flange as shown, serves additionally to retain the contents of the box in position, while still permitting a display of the greater part of said contents. The snug fit of the retaining element 14, within the, surrounding side walls-of the compartment 10, serves also to ,forming a plurality of compartments therein, adapted to receive and maintain different articles in display position, a box, a tele scoping lid therefor, approximately fitting 1n one of said compartments, and a retainer These garters are usually associated,
fitting snugly over the lid and Within the compartment.
2. The combination of a container', means forming a plurality Yof compartments therein, adapted to receive and maintain different articles in display position, means formingan article receptacle, positioned in one compartment to provide a space between it 'and the compartment Walls for a surrounding article, a box, a telescoping lid therefor,
approximately fitting in another` of said` compartments, means forming a buckle re ceptacle, positioned in one compartment so as to form a surrounding space for a coil of belt, and an open faced retainer, fitting in another compartment, for holding a pair of garters 1n place.
HENRY A. PETER.
