0. G. MUELLER TABLE Filed Nov. 28. 192;
INVENTOR.
Patented Nov. 4, 1924.
. UNITED STATES OTTO G. MUELLER, 0F SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN.
TABLE.
Application filed November 28, 1921.
Be it known that I, Or'ro G. MUELLER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Visconsin, have 1nvented new and useful Improvements in. Tables, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
This invention relates to improvements 1n tables and more particularly to tables having one or more leaves hingedly connected to the top portion thereof which are adapted to be .raised into a horizontal position to increase the size of the table top.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide novel means of simple construction for supporting the hinged leaves in a horizontal position.
In its preferred form the invention contemplates a pair of bars slida'bly mounted on the under side of the table top which when pulled outwardly provide a firm support for the hinged leaf; and a further object of the invention is to provide novel means so connected with said bars and the hinged leaf that it will be raised with the leaf into a convenient position whereby the sliding bar may be conveniently brought into its operative position.
The invention consists in the novel constructions and arrangements to be hereinafter described and claimed for carrying out the above stated objects and such other objects as will appear from the following description of a certain preferred embodiment illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a table embodying the principles of the invention, the side leaves thereof being in horizontal position; and
Fig. 2 is an inverted plan view of the table shown in Fig. 1, one of the leaves thereof being in a horizontal position and the other leaf being in a vertical position.
Like characters of reference designate like parts in both views.
Referring now to the drawings, the invention is illustrated in connection with a table Serial No. 518,313.
The side members of the frame 5 are provided with apertures 9thro-ugh which transversely extending bars 10 may freely slide; there preferably being a pair of spaced bars 10 provided on each side of the table for the respective hinged leaves. Strips 11 are fastened to the under side of the top portion of the table to provide guiding means for the bars 10. A longitudinally eXtending member 12 is rotatably connected to each pair of bars 10 adjacent their outer ends, the members 12 preferably having outwardly extending trunnions 18 which extend into suitable apertures provided in the respective bars. It will thus be seen that when the member 12 is moved transversely of the table, the sliding bars 10 connected thereto will also be moved with it so that the bars 10 may be simultaneously pulled out to support the leaf Or pushed backwardly to permit the leaf to drop down. The bars 10 are preferably tied together at at their rear ends by a longitudinally extending strip 14:.
The rotatable members 12 are preferably provided with operating handles 15, the handles 15' being rigidly secured at their rear ends to the respective members 12. The outer ends of the handles 15 extend through andhave a sliding engagement with eyes 16 carried by the respective hinged leaves. It will be apparent from the foregoing description that when either of the leaves 7 is raised into a substantially horizontal position, that the handle 15 associated there with will also be brought into a substantially horizontal position underneath the leaf so that the person raising the leaf may conveniently take hold of the free or outer end of the handle 15 and pull the sliding bars 10 outwardly into a position tosupport the raised hinged leaf.
I claim:
A table having a top portion, a leaf hingedly connected thereto, a pair of spaced bars positioned substantially transversely with respect to said leaf and slidably mounted on thewunderrside of saidrtop portion, a cross bar j-journazled in the outer ends of said slida'ble bars, and a handle fixed at one end to said cross bar and having its other end slidably associated with said leaf whereby said handle will floe raised into a substan- In testimony whereof, I affix any signature.
o 'ro G.- MUELLER.
