Description

H. ADERER DENTAL CLASP Filed ,April 24. 1923 in vendor Patented Dot, 7, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HUGO ADERER, OF EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO J. F. JELENKO & 00., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A FIRM COMPOSED OF JESSE F. JELENKO AND HUGO ADERER.
DENTAL CLASP.
Application filed April 24, 1923.
T all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HUGO ADERER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at No. 82 South Parkway, East Orange,
in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the construction of dental clasps.
An object of my invention is the construction of a clasp having an anchoring member or tail-piece which may be readily and securely attached to the band or fingers of the clasp at the point desired. A further object of my invention is the construction of a clasp having fingers adapted to be adjusted on a tooth. A still further object is the construc tion of a clasp having a cusp as an integral part of the tail-piece thereof. A still further object is the construction of a clasp with a tail-piece having a sliding connection with the band of the clasp.
lVith these and further objects in View, one embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan of my clasp showing in dotted lines different positions of the tail-piece;
Figure 2 is a section on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a perspective of the tail-piece;
Figure 5 is a detail view partly in section illustrating the manner the clasp may be used with a plate.
My clasp may be made of any suitable material such as gold clasp metal and comprises a band 1 and a tail piece 2. The band is slit from a point adjacent one end thereof to a point adjacent the other end thereof to form fingers 3 and 4 which may be adjusted on the tooth on which the clasp is placed by any suitable dental instrument. The opening made by the slit is greater at the extreme ends of the slit than intermediate thereof. The tail-piece has a stud 5 having the point 6 thereof upset to form a sliding connection Serial No. 634,366.
with the slit in the band. The stud is inserted in the slit near either end and may then be slid to the point desired, the point on the band depending on the shape of the tooth. When the desired point is reached, the tailpiece may be permanently attached by means of solder 6 The tail-piece may have integral therewith a cusp or occlusal rest 7 for use with a tooth requiring a cusp, the shape and position of the tooth deter mining to some extent the position of the tail-piece with respect to the band. The tail-piece may be slit to form an opening 8 in order to hold it firmly in a rubber plate.
In Figure 5, the clasp is shown as it may be used with a plate 9. The clasp having the anchoring member embedded 1n the plate is attached to a natural tooth 10. Artificial teeth 11 are shown attached to the plate.
Having described my invention, what I claim is l. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, said band and said tail-piece having a sliding connection, said sliding connection extending substantially the entire length of the band and means to set said tail-piece at a point selected on said band.
2. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tailpiece, said band and said tail-piece having a sliding connection, said connection comprising a slit in said band and a head on the end of said tail-piece adapted to slide in said slit, and means to set said tail-piece at a point selected on said band.
3. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, said band being slit from a point adjacent one end thereof to a point adjacent the other end thereof and a stud on said tailpiece having the end thereof upset to form a sliding connection with said band by inserting said stud in said slit.
4. A dental clasp comprising a band and a tail-piece, said band being slit from a point adjacent one end thereof to a point adjacent the other end thereof to form fingers capable of adjustment on a tooth and means on said tail-piece cooperating with said slit band to form a sliding connection with said band.
5. A dental clasp comprising a band, said band being slit whereby resilient fingers are formed and a tail-piece having a sliding connection with said band and means to at tach said tail-piece to said band at the point 5 desired.
6. A dental clasp comprisingaband, said band'being slit w'vhe'reby -resi1ient fingers are formed and a tail-piece having a sliding connection with said band and means to attach said tail-piece to said band at the point desired and said tail-piece having a cusp as a part thereof.
Iii-testimony whereofl affix-1n si 'nature.
