Description

L. M. FLECKNER.
TREE PROP. APPLICATION FILED DEC-19, 1919- INVENTOR.
I L ,MFZee/fner- Patented May 3, 1921.
LUTHER M. FLECKNER, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
TREE-PROP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 3, 1921.
Application filed. December 19, 1919. Serial No. 346,052.
S to of California, have invented new an 1 useful Tree-Prop, of which the following is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in construct and use the same. nv ntion relates to a tree prop and rovide a support for a tree ole of being applied to any straight the crotch for the tree limb. L tood by those skilled in numbers of poles are used lie support of the limbs of e poles are usually selected have natural crotch cathe desired limb or else the i t ed to the prop.
n 1e PlQSEDb invention the crotch is secured to any straight pole or to any limb of the desired length and produces an arti ficiil crotch for the support of loaded limb.
Another of the invention is to produce a tie for connecting the crotch to the prop which is cheap to ma e and which can be secured to the crotch and the prop without the use of tools.
Another object of this invention is to pro 'de a crotch for tree props which is ca e of being moved up or down the pole suppor ing it by simply pushi g the crotch he pole to lift the prong out of engagement with the pole.
@ther objects of the invention will appear the description proceeds.
i Jo' imcnt of the invention is shown 1c drav ng in which the same reference ieral is applied to the same portion t, but I am aware that there may ations thereof.
. is a view of the prop in use.
a plan view of the tie.
an enlarged perspective view of crotch separate from the prop,
2 1e to oioduce the a t tl at body has a strap 7 and a strap 8 with a slot 9 therein. The slot 9 is wide enough to receive the strap 7 and when passed therethrough the strap is bent back and the tabs 10, 11 are bent down on the strap to hold it in place.
If the pole is small and the end of the strap 7 reaches the tabs 12, 13 they also may be bent down on the strap to hold its end down.
T he crotch consists of a bent bar 1% provided with a point 15 at one end and it is secured to the tie by bending the double tabs 5 and 6 around the crotch.
When the crotch is to be used the strap is secured thereto and the strap is then bent around the pole to be used as a prop. The strap 7 is then passed through the slot 9 and bent back upon itself, the crotch being placed inside the strap and the point 15 is pressed tightly into the pole. When the strap has been pulled up tightly and bent back the tabs 10, 11 are bent down on it, and if the strap reaches the tabs 12, 13, they may also be bent down on the strap to hold it in lace. lhe prop is then ready for use and since the point 15 is pushed into the body of the pole it cannot slip down.
llhat I claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the construction shown in the drawings and above particularly described form, within the purview of my invention:
1. A tree prop comprising a crotch, a metal clip having tabs for securing the crotch thereto, and a strap carried by the clip adapted to pass entirely around a pole for securing the crotch thereto, said clip also having other tabs for securing the strap in position.
2. A tree prop comprising a crotch having a prong to engage a pole, and a metal clip having tabs to secure the crotch thereto and also having a slot and a strap for securing the crotch to a pole.
A tree prop comprising a crotch having a prong at one end, and a metal clip having tabs for securing the crotch thereto and also having a strap longer than the tabs adapted to pass around a pole and through a slot in the clip for securing the crotch to a pole.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 2 day of December A. D. 1919.
LUTHER M. FLECKNER.
