Description
T. A. RYAN SANITARY HOUSING FOR TOOTHBRUSHES Fil M y 18. 1920 IN VEN TOR.
Patented July 29, 19 24 THOMAS A. RYAN, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK.
SANITARY HOUSING FOR TOOTHBRUSHES.
Application filed May 18, 1920. Serial No. 382,269.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. RYAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Yonkers, county of VVestchester, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Sanitary Housing for Toothbrushes, which is disclosed in the following specification;
This invention relates to improvements in .a sanitary housing for tooth-brushes, that can be readily attached to any tooth-brush, and transferred from one brush to another, as when discarding an oldtooth-brush for a new one, the housing should outlast several brushes.
This invention affords a means to keep the bristles of a tooth-brush in a sanitary condition, as it protects them from anything foreign when the brush is not in use, and is readily swung to alignment with the handle acting as a grip for the handle when the brush is used; it also prevents the housing from being mislaid or lost, as it is always attached to the handle.
The improvement which consists of a housing having siX sides, one of which is hinged, or slidable, and closed by a spring, and held closed with a catch, one side cut away to admit the handle of the brush, an arm projecting from the housing aligned with the brush handle, has swiveled to its outer end a clamp to grip the handle; this construction permits the housing when one side is opened to be swung .to the end of the handle and returnedwhen the brush is used.
The arm is rigid or pivoted at the housing, the handle grip is a wire or metal grip, gripping the handle or clamped with a set screw.
Details of the improvement, the construction and arrangement; of the several parts will be apparent from the description, claims, and the accompanying drawings.
Figure 1, is a side view of the brush ex- -posed, the housing swung back over the handle end. Fig. 2 is a plan of same. Fig. 3 is a side view showing the housing swung closed over the brush. Fig. 4 is a side view of the housing attached to.one section of a handle hinged in the middle, the housing opening at the bottom. Fig. 5 is a view of the housing in perspective. Fig. 6 is a side view showing the arm rigid at the housing, the housing swinging clear of the handle end, the housing door slidable. The hand grip formed of wire, to grip the handle and form a pivot in the arm end. No. 1 is a tooth-brush. No. 2 is the housing, having one side constructed to open with hinges, or slidable, actuated by a spring and a catch, and one side cut away to permit a handle to project from the housing. No. 3 is the arm connecting the handle grip and housing. No. 5 is a grip constructed to grip the handle of any tooth-brush. No. 4 is a set screw. No. 6 shows the side of the housing that opens. the lip of catch. No. 9 shows the opening for handle.
The arm No. 3 is rigid or pivoted to the housing No. 2, the other end pivoted to a grip No. 4, gripping the handle of a toothbrush; when one side of the housing No. 6 is open the housing is swung back forming a grip for the brush handle, when the toothbrush is in use; by the same means the housing is swung back inclosing the brush bristles so they cannot come in contact with any thing when the brush is not in use, and having the housing always, attached to the toothbrush, it cannot be lost or mislaid, and its use is assured, thus keeping the tooth-brush in a sanitary condition and promoting the general health.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination with a tooth brush of a complete housing adapted to swing to and from and encase the brush end of said tooth brush, said housing comprising a casing having an arm pivoted to a clamp adapted to attach to the handle of said brush, an opening formed in the top of one end to receive the handle, and the casing side adjacent to said opening adapted to open and close to enable saicrll casing to swing to and from said brush en I V In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand before two subscribing witnesses.
' I THOMAS A. RYAN.
