f BARTHOLOMEW J'. BODNAR, OF ASTORIA, NEW YORK.
TROUSERS.
Application led August 1D, 1923. Serial No. 656,?07.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, BARTHOLOMEW J. BoD- NAR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Astoria, Long Island, in the vcounty of Queens and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful lmprove- 'ments in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to wearing apparel, having more Vparticular reference to mens trousers, the invention having for an object the construction of the trousers in a manner to cause them to remain creased for a relatively long period of time.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be hadf-to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a perspective view showing a pair of trousers having the invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a detail horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of AFig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a like view to Fig. v'2 but showing a slightly modified form.
n applying my invention to a pair of trousers the latter are constructed in the main in the usual manner, the waist portion of the trousers being indicated at 10 in Fig. 1 and the legs in this and the other views at 11. To retain the crease in the trouser legs for a relatively long period of time the creased parts are arranged to` be held together which might be done when cheapness of construction is the main object, by rows of stitches 14 as shown in Fig. 4:. The stitches 14 may be carried down to the ex treme bottom edge of the trousers before forming the cup, or they may be placed sepa- -rately in the cud after the latter is formed.
'To cause the creases to better retain their shape, and for a longer period of time, l
mayprovide the reinforcing elements such as are shown in Figs. 2 and 3 which are inserted in the creased portions of the trousers. These reinforcing elements comprise a number of strips 16 of suitable materialsuch as buckrani or other stiffening or reinforcing material which are inserted in the trouser legs with their vertical median lines at the points where the creases occur, the strips being thus folded when the trousers are properly creased.
These strips 16 are arranged in a front series and a back series for each leg, the respective strips of each series being closely spaced longitudinally of the trouser legs,
. and have their top and bottom edges inclined from the centres of the strips toward their sides so that the adjacent edges of the contiguous strips diverge away from one another as shown. The strips may be held together as a unit being attached to a thin cord 18 over which they are folded and to which they may be secured by means of a row of stitches 20. These stitches 20 may pass through the reinforcing strips 16 and also through the material of thetrouser legs 10, as shown in Fig. 2, or they might be passed only through the reinforcing strips and the latter cemented or otherwise secured in place in the trouser legs.
These parts of the strips 16 which are in position to come adjacent -the knees of the wearer are preferably relatively short as shown, the strips gradually increasing in length from the knee upward and downward, this construction permitting of the necessary bendingpf the trousers at the knee without destruction of the crease.
Since the material 16 has a strong tendency 4to hold the shape imparted thereto when the trousers are pressed, the crease obtained in this manner is very enduring, and the trousers need pressing only at considerable intervals of time in order proper shape.
l.Having thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. ln combination with a pair of trousers, reinforcing and crease retaining strips arranged in rows extending up the legs of the trousers, said strips being arranged with their vertical median lines at the points where the trousers are creased and having their adjacent edges spaced from one anto keep them in other.-
2. In combination with a pair of trousers, reinforcing and crease retaining strips arranged in rows extending up the legs of the trousers,v said Strips being arranged withl their, vertical median lines at the points where the trousers are creased and having their adjacent edges'spaced from one an-Y ranged in rows extending up the legs of the.
trousers, said strips belng arranged with' their vertical median lines at the points where the trousers are creased and having their adjacent edges spaced from one another, the strips adjacent the knee portions of the trousers being relatively short, and cords uniting each row of strips into a single unit.
4. In combination with'a pair of trousers,
reinforcing and crease retaining strips arranged in rows extending up the legs of the trousers, said strips being arranged with their vertical median lines at the points where the trousers are creased, the strips adjacent the knee portions of the trousers being relatively short, and cords unitin each row of strips into a single unit, sai
strips having their adjacent top and bottom edges inclined away from one another from the centre of the strips toward the sides thereof.'
lln testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
BARTHOLOMEW J. BODNAR.
