Description
Patented Aug. 31, 1926.
UNITED SIe-KIES OLIVER ADCOCK, OF ROCKY FORD, COLORADO.
SL'UICE BOX OR RIFFLE.
Application filed March 24, 1926. Serial No. 97,046.
My present invention relates to improvements in means tor separating` precious inetals by washing or analogous methods, and aims to provide a novel construction by which a greater recovery of the precious minerals may be secured in a more rapid and expeditious manner than is possible with anything' ot which I am aware.
The invention includes the novel construction hereinafter described and particularly defined in the appended elaiin.
In order that the invention may be better understood I haveappended hereto draw ings illustrating' what I at present consider the preferred embodiment ot my invention. While these show the invention as embodied in a sluice box or ritlle designed to be mounted upon a suitable "traine, either stationary or oscillating as desired, it will be understood that it is capable also of being einbodied in a hand operated device.
In these Idrawings Figure l is a plan view ot the sluice box or ritlle. Fig. 2 is a. side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of l. Fig. t is a partial section on line 4-4 ot Fin'. l.
Referring by reference characters to this drawing, the numeral l designates a substantially trough-shaped member, preferably constructed ot sheet metal and having a substantially plane bottoinla and end flanges l by which it inay be bolted or otherwise scoured to a suitable wooden trame not shown). This bottom is provided with a plurality of pockets 2 which are of inverted cone shape and are preferably arranged ina plurality ot rows, as shown. Extending transversely of the sluice boX are a plurality 40 of rows of battles 3 ofless height than the sluice boi:7 and which extend across or bisect the open mouths ot the pockets. Preferably the battles are set substantially perpendicii lar to the plane of the bottom, and preterably also the cone shaped pockets have their axes inclined to planes perpendicular to the plane ot the bottoni so that when the riliie or sluice boi: is supported in inclined position to provide for the flow ot the water or other fluid bearing the mineral to be separated, the axes of the pockets will be perpendicular.
Having thus described my invention7 what I claiin is A riitlle comprising a trough having a plane bottom and upstanding parallel sides, said bottom havinga plurality ot rows of pockets therein between said sides and eX- ten'ding from the inlet end to the outlet end 60 ot said trough, said pockets being' of inverted cone shape and having` their axes similarly inclined toward the inlet end ot the trough, whereby each pocket is intersected by the bottom et the trough at the saine angle, and a baille perpendicular to the bottom and eX- ten-ding' across the open inouthsoit each row of pockets laterally et the trough, whereby the pockets of each row have their axes siniilarly inclined to the plane of their coactinn; battle.
In testimony whereof, I afix my signature. Y y
OLIVER ADCOCK.
