UNITED STATES WLADYSLAW KAPLON, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
SAFETY SIGNAL DEVICE FOR GAS PIPES.
Application filed June 4,
This invention relates generally to improvements for gas stoves and the like used for cooking, the invention having particular reference to a novel type of improvement for gas stoves.
The invention has for an object the provision of 'an improvement for gas stoves comprising a Whistle as a means of warning when gas is escaping.
F or further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a gas stove, and gas meter illustrating my improved device attached to the gas pipe connecting the said gas stove and gas meter.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged central transverse sectional view of my improved device.
llig. 3 is a similar view to that illustrated in Fig. 2, showing a modification thereof.
The gas meter 10, connected by means of a pipe 11 to a gas main, not shown in Fig. 1, of the acconipanying drawing, is also connected 'by means of the pipe 12 to the gas stove 13, provided with a burner 14, and a valve 15, one of common ordinaryT construction such as generally embodied in devices of this description. It will be clearly understood that I do not necessarily limit my invention to gas stoves of the class described, but to all classes and types of gas stoves and the li re.
As here embodied my improved device comprises a body 16, of hollow cylindrical construction, provided with internal threads 1T and 1S, located at its extremities as a means of removably attaching same to the above mentioned gas pipe 12, it being understood that the body 16 is positioned or located in close proximity to the burner 14, for the purpose as hereinafter described and set forth. The cylindrical hollow member 19, preferably ru'bberor the like, is adapted to engage inside the body 16, and is positioned at or near one extremity thereto.y and has suitably molded therein and depending therefrom reeds 20, shaped or bent in the form of two Venturi tubes, and having attached at their free extremities protruding blocks 21.
The above described construction being such as will permit the gas, when passing 1926. Serial No. 113,787.
through the body 16 to vibrate the reeds 20, so as to cause the protruding blocks 21 to knock against the body 16 making a noise which will signify the escape of gas through the burner 14.v It being understood that when the gas is lighted, at the burner 14, that the heat of the burning gas, inasmuch as my improved device is positioned in close proximity to the burner 14, will expand the reeds 2O so that the reeds 21 will make contact with the body 16, thus preventing the hereinbefore described knocking or signaling.
Referring in particular to Fig. 3, of the accompanying drawing, in which I have illustrated a modification of my improved device, the sleeve 22 is adapted to slidably engage in the body 16, and is provided with a tapered inner periphery 23. T he above described construction being such as will permit the sleeve 23 to be slidably positioned so as to vary the distance between the above mentioned blocks 21 and the tapered inner periphery 23 of the sleeve 22, as may be desired, so as to secure an audible knockingor signal, when the reeds 2O are vibrated as above mentioned.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows :h
1. An improved device for stoves, comprising a body adapted to be removably attached to a gas pipe, a cylindrical hollow member adapted to engage inside the said body, and having molded therein and depending therefrom reeds having attached at their free extremities blocks.
2. In a device for gas stoves, a body, a cylindrical hollow member adapted to engage inside the said body, reeds molded therein and depending therefrom, protruding blocks attached to the said free cxtremities of the said reeds, as a means of signifying the escape of gas through a burner of a gas stove, a sleeve adapted to slidably engage in the said body, said sleeve provided with a tapered inner periphery, as a means of varying the distance between the said blocks and the said tapered inner periphery of the said sleeve.
In testimony whereof I have aiiiXed my signature.
