BOILER.
Application filed April 5,Y 1924. serial No. 704,539.
This invention relates to boilers, which have the advantage of effecting a very quick boilingl of water, a continuous and violent circulation and an effective distribution of the water upon and. through the contents, andy wherein the steam generated in said boiler may be passed to a suitable drying apparatus or otherl similar appliance by a conduit leading from the cover, such conduit also serving to return any condensation water from such otherapparatus, to the boiler. Finally additional heat may be delivered to such other apparatus through a conduit connected withwthe outer shell of the washing boiler whereby the waste gases from the heating medium are conveyed to an appropriate passage or chamber of the additional apparatus.
The object of this invention is to improve boilers, as above described, by providing them, with a groove about the upper edge of the surrounding casing so that the lid can constitute therewith a water seal and, further, to construct the steam off-take pipewith a recess encompassing its orifice to enable a water-sealed connection with ya pipe extension to be made. Y
In order that the invention may be fully understood and readily carried into effect I will now describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: i
Figure 1 is a part vertical section of the washing boiler complete; Fig. 2 is a plan and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view showing a water seal gutter and its connection to the boiler and casing.
In these drawings,1 is a casing of suitable metal supportedY on legs 2 and provided with an asbestos or similar insulating lining 3* and an inner protecting metal sheetv 3 for the asbestos, the asbestos and theinner sheet 3 being advantageously held together by a beaded edge 4l on the outer casing, or otherwise in any usual manner.
On top of the casing is secured, by brazing or otherwise, a ring 5 formed with a gutter 6 and a depending flange 7 the upper edge 7 of which is advantageously kept below the top surface of the ring 5 to ensure that Water in the gutter overilovvs into the boiler.
The boiler shell proper 8 which advantageously tapers slightly, is secured to lthe flange 7 by appropriate means and is provided with a plurality of copper or other projections, studs, rivets or the like 9, distributed over the bottom surface. The lid consists of a ring or annulus 10 adapted toA fit in the gutter 6, a cover plate 11 .being formed integral with said annulus 1U andl having a sight aperture l2 of glass, if de# sired, so 'that inspection ofthe insideof the boiler maybe had without the needof raising the cover thereby occasioning loss of steam. Y
A heating described in kmy co-pending applicationY filed conjointly with the present application, is adjustably secured to the legs as eX- plained in my previous specification and in such a manner that the heat retaining ring 13 provided on the base olate 14 which is fitted with the locking device 15 for engagement with apertures in the legs 2, mav be brought up closely against the beaded edge of the casing 1 and that the flame from the burner may play upon the projections or rivets 9 of the boiler proper 8 thus effectively transmitting heat to the contents. The burner proper which is disposed cen'- trally Within the ring 13 may be gas, oil or electric as desired without departing from the spirit of the invention. i
The boiler proper 8 is fitted with awater circulating device indicated generally `by the reference numeral 16A ofl the character described and claimed in my co-pending application filed conjointly application and wherein a base plate 2O of double conical form acts'as a kind of geyser so as to quickly produce h ot waterl and steam which ascends a central tube 21 and is ejected through a series of'angularly disposed apertures 22 situate near the top of said central tube. This water circulating device is secured to the bottom of the boiler 8 by means ofa number of bolt-devices comprising a pin or bolt 17 upon a lug 18 engaging a short sleeve 19 fixed beneath plate 20. in dotted more are preferably employed, the apparatus being locked or yunlocked by slightly turning same so that a sliding bolt 23 fitted -Y on the side of with a sleeve conical base 20. the boiler enables when desired.
with the present 211- provided on the double hot water to be drawn olf Steam from the boiler 8 may be con- 110 p burnery preferably of the type v.
@ne of such devices is indicated lines in the drawing, but two or Y the boiler 8 vcan be engaged 105 A tap 27 in the bottom of through an aperture same conduit, forY Which purpose' a Water around the seal 26 in the form of a gutter mouth of the conduit 25, is provided soforming an effectively good joint preventing the escape ot steam at this point; Waste heat from the heatingmedium is conducted 2S provided in' the casingrl. 1
It will thus be appreciated that a boiler such as described above being manifold'devices for utilizing the heat ot the burner to the jrllest possible extent, Will be capable of generating large quantities of steam, especially it provided With the Water circulating'device as mentioned above. A
good deal of this steam will condense on the lid'wh'ic'h isy comparatively cool, Whilst such.
possessed ot'v the remainder may pass away by the lateral conduit therein to a steam up-tale and the provision ofgutters at the point Where the lid lits on to the boiler and also on to the Lip-take enables the condensation Water to return to theboiler and provides Water seals which prevent the escape of steam or Water at any point Whilst allowing` the lid to be readily removed or aliiXed as desired.
