ALEXANDER LOUIS SCI-IAEFEB, OF BOLTON, ONTARIO, CANADA.
WATER-HEATING DEVICE FOR OIL-STOVES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14, 1921.
Application filed May 3, 1920. Serial No. 378,566.
T 0 all w 7mm it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER Louis SGHAEFER, of the village of Bolton, in the county of Peel, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, merchant, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVater- Heating Devices for Oil-Stoves, of which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in water heating devices for oil stoves and the object of the invention is to devise means for heating a larger quantity of water than can be heated upon the top of an oil stove and in such a way as not to interfere with the ordinary operation of cooking.
My invention consists essentially of a hollow walled chimney for the burner of the oil stove, a water reservoir and water ducts connecting the top and bottom of the hollow walled chimney to the bottom of the reservoir at opposite sides, and a hollow cover for the reservoir having the bottom wall vperforated and having an open front, all as hereinafter more particularly explained in the following specification.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a portion of an oil stove showing my device applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional view through my hollow walled chimney and showing the burner in position, within the lower end of the chimney.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view through the reservoir.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different views.
1 indicates a portion of an oil stove. 2 are the burners thereof and 3 the chimneys of the burners. ()ne or more of the chimneys 3 may be formed hollow as indicated at 41? (see Fig. 2) and is provided at its lower end with a water inlet 5 and at its upper end with a water outlet 6. 7 is a water reservoir which is supported upon the end of a stove by suitable brackets 8. The open top of the reservoir 7 is provided'with a hinged cover 9 which cover is provided with a front opening 10, and a bottom perforated wall 11,
which fits directly upon the top of the reservoir. Within the hollow cover 9, and upon the perforated bottom wall 11 may be placed receptacles containing victuals which it is desirable to supply with steam in order to keep such victuals hot and prevent them drying out.
12 is a nipple which extends from the bot tom of the reservoir at the side thereof remote from the end of the oil stove. 13 is a rubber tube connecting the nipple 12 with the water inlet 1a is a nipple extending from the side of the reservoir 7 adjacent to the oil stove and in proximity to the bottom thereof. 15 is a rubber tube connecting the nipple 1 1 with the water outlet 6 of the hollow walled chimney 4.
It will thus be seen that when the burner 2 is lighted and heat generated, that the water in the hollow chimney 4 will start to circulate, the cold water entering through the inlet 5 and rising as it is heated through the hollow wall to the outlet 6 passing from thence through the tube 15 and nipple 14 to the bottom of the reservoir 7, rising in such reservoir to the top, the cool water passing through the nipple 12 and tube 13 to the inlet 5 of the hollow chimney.
From this description it will be seen that I have devised a very simple device, applicable to oil stoves for heating water in comparatively large quantities and which may be also utilized for keeping cooked foods hot and moist.
hat I claim as my invention is- In a water heating device for oil stoves, the combination with the stove body provided with the usual burners, of a water reservoir rigidly connected to the body, a chimney for the burner having a hollow wall forming a water space, and flexible inlet and outlet pipes connecting the interior of the hollow chimney to the water reservoir and adapted to permit of the free vertical movement of the chimney independently of the reservoir.
ALEXANDER LOUIS SCHAEFER.
