H. M.\STURGIS MOP AND BRUSH HANDLE CONNECTION Filed April 1925 11v VENTOR flarbe f 1 Jfu/y/Ii 3 l/ 7 A-TTORNEY T Patented June 8 192 6 UNITED vstares HERBERT Id. STURGTS, OF -KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
MOP-A1\TD'BRUSH HANDLE CONNECTION.
Application filed A ril '20, 1925. Serial nogaraes.
This invention relates to mop and brush handle connections, but it is particularly designed for use in connection with a mop head such as, is usua'llyemployed with floor mops, and the invention particularly resides in the frame for holding the mop fabric which is usually in the form of a bag.
The invention consists in certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be specifically described hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which, I
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the mop head frame showing the handle attached, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the mop head frame with the handle attaching clips removed.
The frame is shown as constructed of a piece of stout wire bent intermediate its ends to provide a toe portion 1 with diverging side members or bars 2 and 3 terminating at their rear ends in inwardly disposed heel forming portions 4 and 5, the
heel forming portions being spaced apart having a right-angularly projecting termi' nal abutting against the other end portion. The'two end portions are indicated at'12 and 13. The end portion 12 is provided With an off-set or shoulder 14 against which the right-angularly projecting terminal 15 of the end member 13 abuts. The rightangularly projecting portion 16 of'the' end portion 12 abuts against the edge of the portion 13. Thesides of the portions 12 and 13 are flat as indicated at 17 and 18 to receive a sheetmetal clip19 which is folded around the transversely disposed end portions 12 and 18 to securely fasten them together to form a transverse intermediate brace. cut-out portion 20 on either side of which is a pivot-receiving tubular portion. These are indicated at 21 and 22 to receive the oppositely disposed pivot members 23 and 24 of a looped member 25 which is carried by The clip 19 is provided with an edge Pawn" oi' ricn.
the ferrule 26 which receives the end of the handle 27.
The handle will be sofastened to the clip that it will pass through the space between the heel portions of the frame when the frame is tilted on the members 23 and 24.
The frame may be caused to lie flat upon the floor and the toe portion will enable the operator to move the mop into angular places such as corners and the like, and the; fiat construction of the frame will permit mopping or polishing under furniture, radiators and the like.
The frame may be inexpensively constructed from wirev as will be apparent by reference to the foregoing description in connection with they drawings. The wire' may be of. appropriate gauge and when it is formed as shown in the illustrated embodiment of the invention, it will possess considerable rigidity and yet require but little weight.
What I claim and desire to secure by Lettars-Patent is:
1. A mop head, comprising a frame consisting of wire bent intermediate its ends to provide 'a toe withtwo diverging side portions, two inwardly extending heel portions in spaced relation, brace bars integral with the heel portions and connected to the side portions intermediate their ends, the ends of the wire extending across the middle of theframe in overlapping relation, and having right angular terminals, the terminal at one end portion abutting-against the other end portion, a clip fastening the two end portions together, and a'handle fastening pivotally fastened to the clip.
2. A mop head, comprising a frame consisting of a single strand of stout wire, bent at its middle to provide a'toe portion and two divergingside bar portions, the side bar portions having inbent heel portions at their ends opposite the toe, the heel portions being backturned and havingout wardly curved portions secured to the intermediate portions of the side bar portions, the ends of the wire strand being inturned and overlapping at the middle of the frame, a clip connecting the overlapped ends of the wire strand, and a handle fastening pivoted to the, clip.
3. A mop head, comprising a frame consisting of a single strand of stout wirev formed into a frame, having a wedgeshaped toe and two spaced, inwardly extending heel=portions, the heels having forwardly extended portions connected to intermediate side portions of the frame thew .free ends of thestrand-extendinginwardly across the middle of 11115161111116 inoverlapping relation, a clip connectingthee-verlap ping ends of the strand, and a handle fastening pivotally secureel'to the clip.
4. A mop head, comprising a frame con- 'sistin'g ot-a single strand or stout-wire formed into a frame, having a wedgeshaped toe-portion and two-spaced, inwardly extending heel portions, Y the innermost portions of the heels having laterally bent portions connected-to .interniediateiside portions of thefra'ine, the -free: endsot the strand extending inwardly across the middle of the frame, in'overlapping relation, the
clip.
In testimony whereof-1 afix 'my signature.
