Description

- 252. CIOMPOSITIONS,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
.No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JosErH Jossnnsox, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stain Removers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to a stainremover.
Objects of this invention are to provide a stain remover which will remove stains from clothing or other goods without injury to the texture of the goods, which will not injure the hands of the operator during the period of use, and which may be very cheaply manufactured from relatively simple ingredients.
Further objects are to provide a stain remover which is effective in its action and does not require any additional treatment other than application to the goods.
In practising this invention I prepare the stain remover as follows :-To form approximately one quart of the solution, I mix:- 3 025. of a ugmmp nia of 10% strength, 1 qt. of softiifr vatgr, 2 teaspoons of sa lt-petre, 3 ozs. 51571 oz. of sulphurous acid, 1 dram of oxalic acid.
In making this stain remover, I first bring the water to a boil and add the soap, the saltpetre and the oxalic acid. There- Application filed April 6, 1925. Serial No. 21,248.
after, I add the sulphurous acid and ammonia and bring the mixture to boiling point. \Vhen it has arrived at this temperature, I immediately remove it from the fire and let it cool. During the cooling I continuously stir the mixture until it takes a paste-like form.
In using the stain remover, it is merely necessary to apply it to the stained portion of the goods and thereafter thoroughly rinse the treated portion with clear water.
It will be found that the stain has been completely removed although it may be formed from grease, oil, paint, ink or other causes, and that the fabric has not been injured.
It will be seen, therefore, that I have provided a very simple and effective stain remover which may be cheaply manufactured and easily applied.
I claim:
A liquid stain remover formed by mixing the following ingredients in substantially the following proportions :3 ozs. of aquaammonia, 1 qt. of soft water, 2 teaspoons of saltpetre, 3 ozs. soap, 1 oz. of sulphurous acid, 1 dram of oxalic acid.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of Wisconsin.
