Description

Patented 27, 1926. y
UNITED STATES PATENT o F-lcE.
oscan Daemon wILLIs Ann nnwm wooiw rELIx',"
. .wncmm or nonrmcron, wnsr HOLDER.
Application .filed June 20, 1924; Serial No. 721,248.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that we, OSCAR D. WILLIS and EDWIN W. FELI citizens of the 'United States, and residentsof Huntington, in the county of Cabell and State of'West Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Holder-got Which'the following is a full, clear; and exact description.
The resent invention relates to new and usefulimprovements in attachments foreig- .arette packages and it pertains more particularly to an attachment in the form of a match holder and carrying means adapted for use in connection with a cigarette packa e.
It is one of the primary objects of the invention to provide a device of this character which may be. readily attached'to and removed from a cigarette or similar-package. It' is a further object of the invention to provide means whereby the device is retained in position upon the cigarette pack- It is a still further object of the invention to associate with the match-carrying means means for permitting of the discharge of the cigarettes contained in the package to which ing, the reference numeral 5 designates a eigarette the device is attached. 1 e :With the above and other objects in View reference is had to the accompanying drawing n which' igure' 1 1s a perspective view of a c1garette package showing the match-carrying,
attachment in place thereon;
, Fi ure 2 is a perspective view the" mate '-ca-rrying' attachment; and
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional-view taken on the line 3--3 of Figure 1.
Referring more specifically to.the draw package which is of the ordinary construction. I v
The reference character'A designates a substantially U-shaped member having a base portion 6 andxtwo' legs or sides 7 and 8.
Each of the legs .7 and 8 is cut as-at'9 to pro- "vide resilient tongues 10 and said resilienttongues 10 are formed 'witha serratedfree end 11; The base 6 of the ,Urshaped member is provided. with an opening 12 and said opening constitutes means whereby the contents of the package maybe discharged from the U-shaped member.
Theleg 8 .of the 'U-shaped member is provi'ded on side edges witha plurality of v integral clips 13 and the said clips are bent inwardly of the leg 8, as designated by the reference. numeral 14. In bending these clips 13 inwardly of the leg 8 they are spaced from said leg or occupy a position parallel therewith-for a purpose to be hereinafter described. a
The reference character B designates a match book and said match book is adapted for attachment to the U-shaped member by passing its back 15.,beneath the inwardly turned clips 13, as more clearly shown in Figure 1.
In use the U-shaped member A is adapted to embrace a cigarette package with the base 6 of the U.-shaped member closing the opened end of the package. This presents the opening 12 heretofore mentioned through which cigarettes, such as designated by the referencecharacter 0 in Figure 1, may be dis charged. e
With the U-shaped member upon the package in this position'a match book B is secured to the U-shaped member bypassing its back beneath the clips 13 as heretofore described. When the U-shaped member is positioned uponthe cigarette package the serrated end of the resilient tongues 10 engage the open end of the cigarette package, 'as indicated by the reference character D in Figure 3, and prevent a movement of the cigarette package relative to the U-shaped member to a point where theopened end ofthe cigarette package would engage the base 6 of the-U-shapod member A.
From'the foregoing it is apparent that the.
present invention provides a new and novel device for attaching a match book to a cigarette package, and at the same time the device provides a closure for the-cigarette pack age and permits of discharge of the cigahaving angularly disposed teeth at' its extremity thereof on each of said sides, the tremity, said resilient tongues being artongues coacting to cause the teeth thereofranged on said sides respectively opposite to engage the opposite sides of a package to each other and capable of coaction to hold a hold the package between the sides, and a 5 package between the sides by virtue of the pair of clips at the opposite side edges of one 15 resulting impaiement of said teeth in the of the sides for releasably retaining a second package. package.
