Description

April 20 1926.
J. BRADLEY WRENCH Filed July 5. 1922 y@ @wffffz WITNESS:
Patented Apr. 20, 1926.
UNITED STATES JOHN BRADLEY, OF ANGLESEA, NEWJERSEY.
WRENCH.
Application filed July 5,
'70 oZZ whom t may concern: h Be it known that I, JOHN BRADLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Anglesea, in the county of Cape May and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in'Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improven'ients. in wrenches, the general object of the invention being to provide a wrench of the alligator type which has a pair of jaws at each end thereof, with one jaw of each pair movable with means for adjusting the same towards and from the stationary j aw.
Another obj ect of the invention is to make the movable jaw reversible so that its toothed part may be placed in active position or its straight edge may be placed opposite the other jaw. Y
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts,y
to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In Idescribing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a side view of the improved wrench. y
Figure 2 is a section on line 2 2 of Figure l. Y
As shown in these views, the wrench l is of double construction and each jaw part is made like an ordinary alligator wrench, excepting that the jaw 2 is pivoted in a f socket 3 in the body of the wrench. The
inner end of thisjaw has a notch 4 which.
engages a nut 5 on a threaded shaft 6 which 1922. Serial No. 572,933.
is journale'd in the body, an opening 7 being formed yin the body through which the nutextends so that it can be readily manipulated by the thumb and linger of the operator. A plate 9 covers the end of the .opening alndiforms a support for one end of the screw sia lt. f
Thus the distance between the two jaws can be adjusted to make thewrench fit different size objects and by removing the pivot pin 8 the movabley jaw can be removed from the socket and reverse-d so that its straight edge may be placed in operative p0- sition with the other jaw.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages yand novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction. and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope 0f the appended claim. Y
Having thus 'described my invention what Iclaim is A wrench of the class described, comprising a handle having a stationary jaw at each end thereof and a socket vat each end arranged adjacent the jaw land said handle having a transverse opening thereinin communication with ythe inner ends of said sockets, a plate closing the outer end of said opening', a threaded rshaft' having one end supported by said plate and its other end carried by the bottom wally of the opening, a nut threaded on said shaft, and movable thereon and movable jaws pivoted in' the sockets and each of said movable jaws having a notch in its inner end for receiving a portionk of said nut.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
` JOHN BRADLEY. c
