S'L STAP? ZINGEL C. BIRNBERG, OF YOUNGSOHN, OHIO.
GAME COUNTER.
Application led May 4,
To all 'whom it may concer/n.:
Be it known that I, Zinsen C. BIRNBERG, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ghio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Counters, et which the Yfollowing is a specification. Y
Y This4 invention relatesl to counter oi chip holding devices especially adapted tor use in connection with various gaines involving the useot disl: or other shaped counters 0i' chips,...
,Briely stated, an important object of this invention is to provide a counter holding device having a series ot' separate spaced vertically arranged pegs upon which the counters oit different denominations may be mounted to provide a simple storing, carrying and computing means for the chips.
A further and equally important object ot this invention is to provide a counter or chip carrier having .a pair ot closure sections which when closed will eltectivelyconceal the chips and when open will forni a wide supporting surface and shallow receptacles for loose chi is. 4
A further object of the invention is to provide a counter holder of the character specified which is of highly siinplilied construction, neat in appearance, and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course olf the following description.
In the accompanying drawing` 'formingl a part ot this application and in which iike numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a. perspective of the improved counter holder closed;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the counter holder open;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary group perspective of the improved holder; p
Fig. l is a perspective illustrating` one form ot' counter or chip especially adapted for use in connection with the invention;
Fig. 5 is a plan view oit the improved holder.
In the drawing, wherein toi' the purpose ol illustration is-shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 generally designates the improved holder comprising a pair of similarly constructed mated sections G preferably formed from 1925. Serial No. 27,966.
metal, Celluloid, bal;elite, ivory, or the like, and which as shown in Fig. 3 are provided ywith side and end flanges or Valls 7 and 8,
respectively.
The end walls 8 are provided with gear segments l0, which mesh with each other and which, therefore, assure the simultaneous opening and closing or' the sections. Each end flange 8 is provided with an opening 12 at the axis of the gear segment 10 and this opening 12 is adapted tor the receptioiiof a pivot pin 1st, by means of which the gear segment is connected to a flange 16 at the end of a rack 18.
It will be seen that the end walls 8 are geared to each other and are pivotally connected to the flanges 1G at the ends of the rack 18 so that the sections 6 may be moved to closed position as shown in Fig. l or to open position as shown in Figs. 2 and 5.
rlhe flat rack 18 which might `be said to torni the bottom wall of the holder is provided with a plurality of spaced parallel pegs or posts 2st upon which suitable counters E36 otl various denominations are mounted. At this point it might be stated that the counters 26 are preferably of annular formation although they may be of any formation and suitablemeans may be mounted on the raclr 18 to hold the counters in place. Fig. 5 illustrates that the counters may be of various denominations and the dierent counters may be separated to expedite settlement, etc.
Also, when the sections (3 are in open position they torni shallow receptacles for the loose counters. When the sections 6 are moved to closed position the'notches 28 in the side walls 7 receive the pegs 24 and, therefore, hold the counters on the pegs and against loss. Also, the pegs 24 are braced at the upper ends thereof by the side walls 7 when the sections 6 are moved to closed position.
ln carrying out the invention a suitable lock or spring clip 34- inay be employed to hold the sections 6 in closed posit-ion. This clip may be ot any style and may be secured on the holder vat any place found practical.
It is important to note that the counters or chips cannot easily get out of place as the holder has no side motion and during the opening or closing ot the holder they pegs 2li are positioned vertically. As the pegs project above the holder when the holder is closed, it may be readily seen at a PTJ Cil
glance llust how the holder should be opened to avoid displacement of the chips.
ik holder constructed in accordance with this invention is especialhY adapted 'for use in connection with a varietv ot games such as Blah Jongg, pinochle, poker, and the lil;
Having thus described the im'ention, what is clain'ied is:
l. A counter holder eoniprising a rack having a plu lalitv olt counter holding pegs7 the ends ot the rack heing provided with l'langes, closure sections having end walls providet with integral gear segments meshing with each other, mains pivot'all)v connecting the end walls to said llauges, said sections heing adapted to he positioned on Aopposite sides ot said rack and being presided with locking in xaus.
counter holder comprising a racl; having a plurality ol spaced pa 'allel counter holding pegsv` the ends ot the racl; heing provided with l'langes. elongated sections having end walls provided with gear ments meshing with caca )ther to assure simultaneous movement t the sections, means pivotallv connecting the end walls to said rack, said sections being provided with side walls adapted to he positioned in edge t0 edge relation and being provided with notches to receive the upper portions ol said pegs whereby to hold the counters mounted on the pegs against displacement when the holder is closed.
A counter holder comprising a rack having a pluralitv of spaced parallel counter holding pegs, the ends ot the rack heing irovided with tlanges, elongated sections having end walls provided with gear ments meshing with each other to assure simultaneous movementV of the sections, means pivotallv connecting the end walls to said r; cls. said sfctions lieing provided with .side walls adapted to he positioned in edge to edge relation and heing provided with notches to receive the upper portions of said pegs wherehv to hold the countersI mounted on the pegsv againstY displacement when the holder closed, said sections delining shallow receptacles when the holder is open.
i. counter holder comprising a 'aclt a plt'tralittY ot .spaced parallel colitiholding pegs, the ends olI the rack lieing n'trvided with llanges. elongated .sections haring end walls provided with gear segmenti;- meshiug with each other to assure simultag'ieotzs movement ol the sections, means pivotally conncct'ng the end walls to ,said racl(r` said .wc-tions heilig provided with side walls e lapted to lie positioned in edge to edge relation and heing provided with notches to receive the upper portions ot' said pegs wherelrv to hold the counters mounted on the pegs against displacement when the holder is closed7 said .sections deining shallow receptacles when the holder is open. and a lo fl: Vl'or connecting the sections, said pegslieing extended aliove the side wallsl olI said sections.
