IBOOK-MATCH' COVER.

To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ALEXANDER B. HARRIS, 'a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a newand Improved Book-Match Cover, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descrl tion. I This invention relates to b 0o matches, and has particular reference to lm'provements in the cover thereof, the principal ob ect in view being to provide a cover which 1s capable of being folded to convert the same into a receptacle for ashes, burnt matches, or other smoking refuse.

The invention furthermore comprehends an improvement in book match covers, which in addition to rendering the same convertible for use as a smoking refuse recep- 2 tacle, also afiords an increased area for advertising matter, and which cover further functions as a means for sup orting the matchesand igniting element rom a supporting surface.

' 2 As a still further object the invention con templates an improved cover for book matches, which is comparatively simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and which is highly eflicient in its purpose.

With the above recited and other objects in view, reference is had to the following specification and drawings in which there is exhibited one example or embodiment as of the invention which is in no way intended as a limitation upon the scope of the appended claims at it, is to be clearly understood that variations and medications which properly fall within the scope .of said claims may be resorted to when found expedient.

' The cover constituting the present invention consists of a strip or length of material having sub-divided areas 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 defined by lines of folding '19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 24. The area 11 constitutes the backing member or flap for the matches 10 which are ap lied and secured thereto by means of a astening element or clip 25 after the opposite end area 15 is folded over the free end of the area 11. The area 12, which is connected by the line of folding 19 to the opposite end of the area 11, is thus joined to the 0p osite'end edge of the area 11 by the fol ably connected areas 13 and 14, so that the areas 11 and 12 may be swun or folded to .a substantially parallel relation with the foldably connected areas 13 and 14 therebetween.

The area 16, which 's of substantially triangular shape, toget er with the flaps 17 and 18, constitutes a combined cover and bottom in the different uses of the device.

The area 16 is joined to one sideof the area 12 along the line of folding 26, whereby the same may be swung to a position to overlie thematches, as'illustrated in Fig. 5. In order to provide means for retain-- ing theareas 16, 17 and 18 in a folded cover ing relation to the matches, as shown in Fig. 5, the area 18 is slitted inwardly from its side edge, as at 27, to the line of folding 24, to define a retaining tab 28, insertable between the area 15 and the matches. 1. A book match package, including a match pack and a body therefor to which said match packiis attached, said body ineluding a plurality of hingedly connected sections, one of which is centrally foldable between the ends of the remaining sections to dispose said remaining sections in substantially parallel relation, the match pack one of said remainin sections, and a side fiat hingedly connected to the side edge of the other remaining section to form a cover for the match pack when the body is collapsed and to form a bottom for the body when opened to constitute a receptacle for smoking-refnone were provided.

4. A book match package, including a match ack and a body attached thereto, said b0 y including a strip of material folded, secured and scored to define an intermediate section and a pair of outer sections, the

latter being hingedly connected to the opposite ends of the intermediate sections,,o'ne of the outer sections having its free end bent to overlie the free end ofthe other outer section and secured thereto with the match pack interposed therebetween, said first-mentioned outer section being centrally scored to constitute a foldable connecting web between the remaining sections, said body constituting when opened a triangular member, and a side covering flap having hinged connection with one ofthe sections and having foldable corners adapted for interengagement within the body sections forming said member to provide a closed bottom therefor, the said side flap being slitted to produce a retaining tongue engageable with the member when folded whereby to hold the same respectively in folded condition and the flap in covering relation to the match pack.

5. A book match package, including a match pack and a body therefor to which said match pack is attached, said body including a plurality of hingedly connected sections, one of which is centrally foldable between the ends of the remaining sections to dispose said remaining sections in substantially parallel relation, the match pack being mounted on the outer face of one of hinged consaid remaining sections, and a side flap hingedly connected. to the side edge of the other remaining sect-ions to form a cover for the match pack when the body is collapsed and to form a bottom for the body when opened to constitute a receptacle for smoking refuse, said flap having foldable corners engageable within the body when opened.
