Be it known that I, CHARLES C. MoCoMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sherman, in the county of Grayson and State of Texas, have invented Acertain new and useful Improvements in Pocket Cheek Protectors, of which the following is ra specification. l Y

This invention relates to improvements in check protector-s and in such connection it refers more particularly to the arrangement and construction thereof.

The present invent-ion is an in'iprovei'nent over Letters Patent No. 1,423,236, issued to me July 18, 1922, for check protectors.

The principal object of the invention is to pro-vide a check protector to rprevent fraudulent changing or altering of a check and to be carried in the pocket of the user, and also to provide such a device which is of economical manufacture and sale. The protector is also constructed of comparatively few parts and is easy of operation, the check being plainly marked by its use.

With the above and other objects in view the invention will be better and more clearly understood by reference to the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and in which:

Continuing the description of the invention and referring to its various parts more in detail, 1 denotes the bottom plateof the check protector, constructed of metal with a flange 2 around the sides and one end, the flange being higher at the opposite end 3. The plate 4 of the device is flanged in the same manner as the bottom portion, the higher flanged portion thereof fitting inside of the same bottom ange and securedtogether by screws 5-5 passed through both top and bottom plates. This leaves a slit or opening 6 for reception of a check upon which the figures are to be stamped or vperforated.

In thebottom 1 is -a channel 7 made integral therewith and providing space for a rod 8, this rod acting as a cam when 'ro-` tated by the knurled head 10 and handle 10n to perforate and mark the lcheck-explained hereinafter. Slots 11-11 are formedl in the rod 8 to permit itto pass supports 124-12 between which are seated a holder 13 for Van inking pad 15-ink being placed in the hollow interior 14. A spring 1G is placed in the bottom plate 1 and serves to retain the rod in place and acts as an abutment between the ink pad holder and rod when the latter is rotated.

In the top plate 4 are a plurality of longitudinally disposed channels 17-17 in which are placed small slidable trays or troughs 18H18. These trays carry a composition such as sealing wax or the like 19 into which is embedded a plurality of pins 20-20 for perforating the check, assembled so that their points will perforate the check in the form of a letter, figure, symbol or the likesee Figure 7 The opposite sides 21 of each of these troughs or trays have stamped thereon numbers from 1 to naught and a dollar mark, as shown in Figure 5. The troughs are moved or slid by means of a pin 22 projecting through slots 23-23 in the top plate 4.

A trough or tray 24 is provided at one end of the row of assembled numerals with a dollar mark only, the purpose being to provide a dollar mark on each side of the check amount.

On the top cover plate 4 and at right angles to the number bars 21 is a trough 25 carrying pins, assembled so as to perforate the check to form the words Not over with a dollar mark thereon. This trough or tray is stationary.

In operation, a check being placed in the slit or opening 6, the handle 10a is operated, causing the cieck to be pressed against the pins and the pad, the number barshaving been previously arranged as required by the pins 22.

that is claimed is:

l. A check protector of the character described comprising a casing having a slot therein dividing the casing into an upper and lower section, an inking pad arranged allel with said inking pad, the other of said trays being slidably mounted transversely to and adapted to extend over said inking pad, and means for moving said pad towards that portion of the tray extending thereover.

2. A check protector of the character described comprising a casing having a slot therein dividing the casing into an upper and lower section, an inking pad arranged within and extending transversely of said lower section, a plurality of printing and perforating trays arranged within said upper section, one of said trays extending' parallel with said inking pad, the other of said trays being slidably mounted transversely to and adapted to extend over said inking pad, a cam roller mounted within said casing, and means whereby said roller may be rotated for moving said pad towards the trays arranged above the same.

3. A check protector of the character described comprising a rectangular casing divided into an upper and lower section, means for connecting and retaining the sections in spaced relation to formV a slot therebetween, a cam rodr journalled within the lower section, an inking pad slidably supported within said lower section and mounted upon said cam rod, a leatl spring engageable with said inking pad, a printing and perforating tray secured within said upper section and arranged parallel with said cam rod7 a plurality of slidable printing and perforating trays supported within said upper section, pins projecting from said slidable trays whereby they may be manually moved over said inking pad, and a handle connected to said cam rod and extending exteriorly of said casing.
