MONROE A. COVER, OF DKMULGEE, OKLAHOMA.
PEN.
Application filed March 21,1925. Serial No. 17,287.
To all 107mmit may concern:
Be it known that l, Moxnon A. Covnn, citizen of the United States. residing: at (lkmulgee. in the county of Ukmulgee and State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful lmi'n'oi'ements in Pens, of
which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stationery and more particularly to an improved writing pen.
An important object oi the invention is to provide a device oi the above character whereby a pen may be firmly and securely retained in association with a holder.- A further object of the invention is the provision of a pen holder whereby the pen may be quickly and readily detached from the holder.
Astill further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character whereby the pen will be securely retained upon a holder against lateral movement.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a pen holder of this character which is extremely simple, durable and can be placed upon the market at. a relatively low cost.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent as the descrip- 39 tion progresses.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate corresponding parts throughout the same:
Fi re 1 is a top plan view of my assem bled evice,
Figure 2 is a same, and
Figure 3 is. a perspective view of the pen point.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 generally designates the holder or staii of my improved writing pen somewhat enlarged in the central portion and hpering' toward the extremity. One extremity is provided. with a comparatively large-s ant spherical extension 6 while the other end is preferably tapered to a point as at 7.
A pen point generally indicated by the numeral 8 is adapted to connect witi the holder 5 and comprises a common form of v shaped writing pen 9 and a sleeve 10.
bottom plan view oi the This sleeve is provided with a tapered slit 11. whereby the pen. point may be mounted in association with the extension of the holder. It can be readily noted from the construction of the sleeve member that same is expansible and normally smaller in diameter than the end of the holder.
When mounting the pen point upon the holder the sleeve 10 engages the end ofthe holder and is forced substantially thereon.
The sleeve is then securely looked upon the holder by the provision of a continuous band 1'2 forcibly inserted over the sleeve 10 after the same has been placed tightly in engagement with the holder. p
My improved device is provided to meet the demand for a writing penwherein the pen point may be easily and securely at tached to the holder and at the same time removed without diiiiculty. It is well known that the common forms of writing ens become tightly lodged inth e holder a er substantially long usage and. are withdrawn with great difficultyu With my improved device the pen is readily mounted in association with the holder, slidingupon the grip ping portion thereof by means of the sleeve 10. The retaining band. 12 is then slid over the pen point and tightly engages with the expanded portion ofthe sleeve and holder preventing movement oi the 1pen point. When it is desirable to change t e point or for any other reason remove the samefromthe holder any implement can be used to force the retaining oand from the pen-point and in the same manner the sleeve from the holder, and the user need not touch the point with the fingers.
lit is to be understood that'the form of'my invention herewith shown and described is to be takenas the preferred example of the same, and that various changes as to the shape, size and arrangement of parts may he resorted to witlu'iut departing from the spirit of the invention, or the scope of the subioined claims.
Having thus clair 1. In a pen of the class having a tapered extremity, a pen point having a sleeve formed thereon, and aim taining hand adapted to retain-the said sleeve in en gement with the said holder.
2. n a pen of the class described, a'holder having tapered extremities, a pen point having a sleeve formed thereon, and a. retaindescribed my nausea-1 described, a holder i with the holder.
ing band slidable on the said sleeve and adapted to retain the same in engagement 3. In a pen of the class described, a pen holder ta ered' toward the extremities. a pen inclu' ing a. writing point and an expansi-ble sleeve member engageahle with one end of the saidholder, and retaining means includingva circular band slidable upon the said sleeve for retaining same in association with the holder.
4. A pen-of the class described including a. holder tapered toward the extremities and provided with e comparatively. large semi;
spherical extension on one end, a pen point including a writing point, a slit sleeve formed thereon and engageable with the.
holder extension, and a retaining band slidable over the said sleeve and holder for retaining the pen firmly thereon.
5. In a pen of the classvdescribed. a, pen
holder tapered toward the extremities and provided with a semi-spherical extension on one end thereof, :1 pen including a Writing point and a slit sleeve slidahle on one end of the holder, and a retaining band sliduble over the said sleeve and nlzipted to firmly retain same in association with the holder.
6. The combination with a holder tapered toward the extremities, of a pen point insleeveengageable with the said holder, and a retaining band slidable upon the said sleeve for retaining same in HSSOCliltlOTl will) the holder.
to permit yielclable connection with the.
holder, and a retaining band slidable over eluding a Writing point and an expa'nsible the said sleeve adapted to firmly retain the pen point in position on the holderi In testimony whereof I a-flix my signature. v MONROE A. COVEK.
