which the following is a full, clear, and exact specification.
My invention relates to container closures and refers particularly to closures suitable for use in combination with collapsible tubes.
Collapsible tubes are especially suitable for containing pastes, such as tooth paste, shaving creams and similar products, because of their adaptability in allowing the removal of a predetermined or desired quantity of contents in a physical form for effective application upon a brush.
In the uses above indicated, it is necessary that the paste be emitted in the form of a ribbon of flat or round construction, that the removal be of a forced character, that the emission may be interrupted when so desired and that the container be capable of practically complete closure when not in use, for economic, hygienic and practical purposes.
Another essential feature in a container of the described character is-that the closure meansbe permanently attached to the container durlng use, in order that it may not be lost or misplaced.
Another important feature of such device is that a practically complete closure be accomplished when not in use, in order that the contents may not become dry or affected by dust or'atmospheric conditions.
Still another important feature of such devices is that the closure be of such construction that it will not become clogged with the contents during non-use in such a manner that the emission of the contents is later accomplished with difliculty.
The device of my invention assesses all of the above, and other, desira le features,
- as will be evident upon a consideration of the accompanying drawings and the description of my invention.
In the particular form of the device of my invention shown in the accompanying drawing, similar parts are designated by similar numerals.

Figure 4 is a side view of the form of my device shown in the other figures.
The particular form of the device of my invention shown in the accompanying drawings comprises a rubber tubular member, or plunger, 10, open at its lower end and carryexternally positioned annular closure member 11 with an upper shoulder 12. The upper end 13 of the tubular member 10 is closed and extends outwardly to form the annular top 14, which is in turn extended downwardly forming the flange 15 spaced from the main tubular member 10. The tubular member has an opening 16.
The device is positioned within the collapsible tube 17 having the shoulder 18 and the neck 19 as shown in the accompanying drawings.
The device in a closed position is shown in Figure 3, the hole 16 being within the tube 17, and the flange 15, the top 14 and the upper portion 13 of the device forming a tight jointure with the neck 19 of the tube 17, preventing the escape of the tube contents.
When it is desired to obtain the contents of the tube, the device is pulled outwardly into the position shown in Figure 2, the shoulder 12 of the closure plug 11 abutting upon the shoulder 18 of the tube, thus causing a closure between these elements. If, now, the tube 17 be partially collapsed by means of pressure applied thereto, the contents 20 will be forced outwardlythrough the tubular member and the opening 16.
When it is desired to again close the tube the pressure is removed, and the device pushed inwardly to the position shown in Figure 3.
In the form of the device illustrated in the drawings, the device is com osed of rubber of such liability as to a low of complete closure li y compressed contact as shown and of such rigidity as to allow of its inward and outward movement within the neck of the container.
It will be seen from the above, that my device comprises a container closure, ca-
pable of movement within the neck of the container, the inward position of which closes the container and the outward POSI- tion of which opens the conta1ner, the device having means for sealing the omture between the container and the device when the container is in open position, the whole device being always maintained in combmed osition with the container and preventlng its accidental removal therefrom.
It is to be noted that when the closure device is moved inwardly, the neck 19 of the tube removes all excess aste from the exterior of theplunger an from around the hole 16, thus preventing an accumulation of paste which might dry upon long discontinued use and thus, so seal the hole 16 as to makeit diflicult to force the paste therethrou h,
