w. T. ELMGREN ATTACHMENT FOR THE HEATING COILS OF ELECTRICAL STOVES Filed Aug. 27, 1925 Patented Dec. 15, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
UNITED STATES WILLIAZM T. ELMGREN, OF VANCO'LIVER, WASHINGTON.
ATTACHMENT FOR THE HEATING COILS OF ELECTRICAL STOVES.
Application filed August 27, 1925.
Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to attachments for the heating coils of electrical stoves and the like a d more particularly to a device for covering and providing a protecting hood for that type of burner consisting of a fire brick body having in its upper surface grooves within which are located electrical resistance coils for heating.
in iln iortant object of the invention is to provide a cover for this device which may be employed simply as a cover protecting the burner against the entry of dirt, dust and the like or which may be reversed and employed as a griddle or hot plate.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective showing portions of two burners of an electrical stove having cover plates constructed in. accordance with my invention, one of the cover plates being broken away to show the burner and being in its sealing position and the other of the cover plates is in position for use as a griddle;
Figure 2 is a sectional view showing the construction of the plate and the manner of its normal engagement with the burner.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral l0 indicates a heater brick of any desired shape or size having in its upper surface grooves 11 for the reception of electrical heating units 12. In accordance with my invention, I provide a plate 13 corresponding in size and shape to the top of the burner, the rim of this plate.
being provided with a flange 16 fitting down Serial No. 52,859.
about the side walls of the fire brick body to prevent displacement of the plate upon the body. a
I am aware that covered burners have been provided heretofore but these covers form an integral portion of the unit and are rigid thereto whereas my cover plate is removable from the burner and may be reversibly applied thereto so that the rim flange projects upwardly to permit the device to be em-- ployed as a griddle or the like, while at the same time, the plate will prevent collection of dirt and dust or contact with the brick or falling articles which would otherwise break it. The plate also serves to prevent contact with the coils of the heating unit or any contents of utensils which may boil or be spilled upon the stove. The rim flange loosely engages the sides of the fire brick and accordingly the plate may be readily reversed at any time.
I claim 1. In combination with an electrical heating unit comprising a fire brick body having a substantially fiat top provided with grooves and electrical resistance elements disposed within the grooves a cover therefor loosely engaged with and fitting upon the top of the fire brick, said cover being of the same size and shape as the fire brick and having at its edges arim flange loosely engage-able about the side edges of the fire brick.
2. In combination with an electrical heating unit comprising a fire brick body having a substantially flat top provided with grooves and electrical resistance elements disposed within the grooves, a cover there for loosely engaged with and fitting upon the top of the fire brick, said cover being of the same size and shape as the fire brick and having at its edges a rim flange loosely engageable about the side edges of the fire brick, said cover being reversibly engaged with the fire brick.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
WILLIAM T. ELMGREN.
