ELECTRIC-LIGHT HOLDER FOR CHRISTMAS TREES.

Saran, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Stevens Point, int-he cohnty of Portage and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in. Electric- Light Holders for Christmas Trees; and l do hereby declare that the "following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

This invention relates to electric holders for- Christmas trees.

In electric light devices for Christmas trees, it has been the universal practise to buy these lights in conventional sockets and light able lines of cable. However, difliculty has been experienced in correctly positioning the lights upon the Christmas tree to secure the "ornamental and T attractive effect desired by having. them'positioned at the exact point needed. ordinarily the cables merely hang over the branches of the tree with resulting disfigurement.

This invention, is designed to overcome the above noted defects, and objects of this invention are to provide a holder for a conventional Christmas tree light which is adapted to receive the usual-socket without detachment from the cables, and which will hold the cables in a concealed manner and will also allow the positionin of the holdin the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a: vertical sectional view through the device showing the lamp socket in place and showing the manner in which the cables are held, such view corresponding to a section on the line 1-'1 of Figure 2.

For example, it may he provided with a polygonal upright portion 2 and with a tapered lower portion, as shown no the drawings. An integral sleeve or shell 3 extends upwardly from the polygonal portion of the holder and is shghtly tapered to receive the conventional socket 4 of the Christmas tree light indicated in dotted lines M35. A binding ring 10 is adapted to be positioned over the lower end of the holder and over the cable 8. This ring may he slipped upon the lower end of the holder, if desired, or it may be screwed thereon, as shown in Figure 1. The body portion of the holder is pro-- vided with an elongated tapered opening 11 adapted to receive and bind the uppermost stem of the tree. This tapered 'construction permits the ready positioning of the holder upon this uppermost stem, and the taper insures secure binding.

The cables are then drawn tight and the ring 10 positioned upon the body portion 1 of the holder.

It will be seen that the ring 10 securely" retains the cable in hidden position within the slot 6 and further that it forms a reenforcing ferrule for the lower end of the holder and prevent splitting of the and holderieven when considerable :Eorce is employed when wedging it upon the uppermost stem of the tree.

If desired, he device may be manufac: tured as a complete entity either with a socket formed in the body of the device or with a socket moulded in place, as shown in Figure 4 In this figure the bodyportion 1' of the device is cast or moulded from any suitable material, and has the Wires or cables 8' imbedded therein. The upper portion of the device carries an ornamental or plain lamp shade 12 which surrounds the electric light 5 It will be seen, therefore, that a holder for a Christmas tree light has been provided which will receive the conventional socket forithese Christmas tree lights, and which doesnot require the detaching of the cables from the socket:

Further, it will be seen that a very simple and ornamental type of holder has been provided for Christmas trees which will position an electric light at the uppermost stem of the tree, so that the electric light ior'ms the highest ornament in the tree.

I claim: 1. An electric light holder for Ghristmas trees comprising an elongated body portion having an aperture therein for the reception of the stem of a Christmas tree, said body portion having an outwardly projecting shell for the reception of a lamp socket, and having a slot cut through said shell and into the body portion from one end thereof to the other for the reception of the cables from said socket, and a ring adapted to be passed over said socketand secured around the lower end of said body portion for retaining said cables in position.
