L W. SHIELDS BELT Filed Jan. 25, 1924 I INVENTOR. Lowe )KC Shams H16 A TTORNEYS,
Patented Nov. 24, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOWELL W. SHIELDS, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HICKOK MANUFAC- TUBING COMPANY, INC., OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION OF NEW' YORK.
BELT.
Application filed January 25, 1924. Serial No. 688,408.
To all "whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LownLL lV. SHncLDs, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-s, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to belts and more particularly to the type in which there is provided an adjusting slide for adjusting the effective length of the belt, an object of this invention being to combine with such slide a flexible connection such as a chain or the like through which a watch, key ring or other article may be anchored.
To these and other ends, the invention consists of certain parts and combinations of parts, all of which will be hereinafter de scribed: the novel features being pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a belt con-- structed in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a rear view of the adjusting slide removed from the belt;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the slide; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4%, Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates a belt buckle having a section 2 secured thereto and in turn con nected by a link 3 to the main belt portion 4. A section 5 is adapted to be clamped by the belt buckle and is provided wit-l1 a loop 6 to which the other end of the main belt portion 4. is adjustably connected, said portion being passed through the loop and having a portion 4i on the inside of the main portion, carrying at its free end an adjusting slide. In this instance, the adjusting slide embodies a bar 7 and a front plate 8,
on the inside of the main portion 4- secured thereto, and the front plate lying in front of the main portion and having laterally turned ends 9 and 10 at the top and bottom thereof respectively connected by the bar 7, the front plate being curved longitudinally so that tension on the belt towards the op posite edges on the front plate tends to bind on the edges of the belt 4 and hold the belt in its adjusted position. The lower laterally turned portion 10 has a portion 11 formed with an eye in which the flexible connection or chain 12 is secured, the other end of the connection having a snap fastener 13 to which any suitable article such as a key ring, watch or the like may be attached.
It will be noted that with this arrange ment a flexible connection or chain is adapted to be attached to a belt of the type having an adjustable slide, the latter being utilized as the anchor for the chain or connection through a novel formation of such slide.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
An adjusting slide for belts comprising a front sheet metal portion curved transversely, sheet metal end portions at right angles to and in one piece with the front portion, the lower end portion having formed in one piece therewith at its free end a downwardly turned portion, formed with means for securing a flexible connec tion thereto, and a relatively narrow anchoring bar secured at its ends to the end portions in spaced relation to the front portion, and a flexible connection secured to the downwardly turned portion on the lower end portion.
LOWELL W. SHIELDS.
