Description

R. FREEDMAN LINGERIE FASTENER July 7, 1931.
Filed July 6, 1929 1147a eel/ 21211 10 TPhtented July 7, 1913f PATENT oFr cE RUTH FREEDMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LINGERIE ras'rmmn Application filed July 8, 1929. Serial No. 376,416.
This invention relates to improvements in lingerie fasteners, and more particularly to a novel device for retaining the shoulder straps of undergarments in proper position.
I have heretofore proposed to combine a s ears clasp and pin, the clasp receiving the shoulder straps, and the pin being adapted to be fastened to the shoulder of an outer garment, for the purpose of retaining the 1'0 shoulder straps in position. The present in- *f'ention is an improvement in lingerie fasteniers'of that character. I now propose to pro- *vide novel means for detachably connecting the pin and clasp so that the same clasp may be used with pins which have been attached to a number of outer garments. For instance, ea ch pair ofclasps with the special attaching ine iis', may be sold with say, a dozen of the pins, andthe' purchaser will secure a pair of 2O the.pins to the inner sides of the shoulder portions of a number of outer garments, and.
1 then the outer garments may be changed and the clasps on the shoulder straps may be expeditiousl'y attached to the pins for the purpose of securing the clasps to the latter.
\Vith thefioregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying awings, and more particularly pointed 'otit in the appended claims.
. Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 is an view showing the manner in which the user attaches one of my devices to the shoulder straps of undergarments, and the shoulder portion of an outer garment.
Fig. 2 is an elevation gfone, form of the device. i
Fig. 3 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 4 is an elevation of a modification. Fig. ,5 is a similar view of another embodimentof the invention.
shfouldeiffstrapson undergarments 7, and 8 outer garment.
One of my improved fasteners is shown in Figs. 2 and 3, and it may include an ordinary safety pin 10, provided with a hook 11 thatis detachably connected to a chain 12, which has its ends secured to a clasp 13. This clasp forms a loop through which shoulder straps may slide, and a cut-out portion 14 formed in one side of the clas gives the same a buckle effect, so that the c asp, while slidable along the shoulder straps, has a tendency to remain in any position 'where it has been located.
As beforestated, a pair of the cla'sps with their chains 12, may besold with, say a dozen of the pins having the hooks 11, and the purchaser may secure these pins to the inner sides of the shoulders of a half a dozen outer garments.
The air of clasps can, of course, be readily app ied to the shoulder straps 6, as the bar 15 of each clasp is secured to one end of the other bar 16 by a simple hook fastening 17. After a pair of clasps have been applied to the shoulder straps, and the user dons an outer garment provided with a pair of the pins, it is only necessary to join the chains 12 to the hooks 11, in order to connect the shoulder straps to the shoulder portions of the outer garment.
Any suitable means for detachably connecting the clasp to the pin may be employed, but I prefer to use the relatively narrow chains 12, as they are admirably suited for this purpose. Furthermore, if desired, the
chain at its intermediate portion, may be provided with a special elongated link 18, as
shown in Fig. 4. This link will be detach portion-of the chain as'shownat 20, in Fig.
Y ably interlocked with the hook 19, and such a 5, and then the hook may be detachably secured to the bar 21 of the safety pin, and if it is desired to prevent the hook from sliding back and forthalong the bar 21, the latter may be bent at its medial portion into U- shape, as shown at 22.
The hook may also have its central portion cut out asv shown at 23, to. assist it in" remaining in any position on the bar 21.
From the foregoing it is believed that the construction,,operation and advantages of 5 the invention may be readily understood, and
it is manifest that numerous changes may be made in the details disclosed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in the claims.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: 1
1. A lingerie fastener including a safety pin adapted to be secured to the shoulder portion of an outer garment, a clasp adapted to be detachably connected to the shoulder strap of an undergarment, and means including a flexible element and hook for detachably connecting the pin and clasp.
2. A lingerie fastener including a clas adapted to be slidably clamped to the shou der strap of an undergarment, a chain having its ends secured to said clasp, a safety pin adapted to be secured to the shoulder portion of an outer garment, and means com- 5 prising a hook for detachably connecting the chain to the safety pin.
3. A lingerie fastener including a clasp adapted to slidably engage theshoulder strap of an undergarment, a safety pin arranged parallel thereto and spaced herefrom and adapted to be secured to the shoulder portion of an outer garment, and means detachably connecting sides of said clasp and safetypin together.
