L. BERGAN CIGAR HOLDER Filed March 14, 1923 Patented Sept. 15, 1925.
1,553,740 PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS smear, 0F mum CENTER, Noam DAKOTA.
CIGAR HOLDER.
Application flledMarch 14, 1923. Serial No. 625,143.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, LEWIS BERGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dunn Center, in the county of Dunn and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Cigar Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cigar holders and has for its prime ob- -ject to provide a deviceof this character with means positioned within the holder by which a cigar may be firmly engaged and adapted to hold said, cigar until same has been consumed to a point where the fire of the cigar reaches the holder.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cigar holder having a .pair of spring. clamping members secured within the holder, sothat the same will automatically engageand hold a cigar of any size. A still further object of my invention is to provide a cigar holder of the above indi-i cated character, which is simple in construction, durable, efiicient; for the purpose intended, and one that can be manufactured and placed on the market for sale at a relatively low cost.
These and like objects of the invention will be better understood as the description follows and as is specifically pointed out in the appended claims. 1
.Referring to the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and which clearly illustrates the construction 1 and operation of my cigar holder; 1
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a cigar holder constructed in accordance with my invention, showing 7 a cigar mounted within theholderz; V
Figure 2 is a: section taken on linefi2.9-
ofFIgureL My I FigureB-is a view looking at the ope or bowl end 'ofthe holder, and Y Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the clamping members.
Referrm to the accompanying drawing Iike' characters will be used to designate like parts in the different views. I
In the drawing, the cigar is indicated by the numeral 1, the holder as 2" having a central draft; pas age 3 1n the stem 4 and a bowl 5 formed in one endof theholder 2,
all of which is of the iisual construction.
murder to retains; eig'ar'of any diameter,
wherein the end of the cigar doesnot ceed the diameter of the bowl 5, a pair of spring clamping members 6 are provided, which are formed with a tongue 7 at right angles to the clamping members 6, so. that the tongues 7 are embedded in the edge of the holder surrounding the bowl 5, as indicated by the'numeral 8. The spring clamping members 6 are semi-circular in formation, so that when same are placed within the bowl of the holder, the two members cooperate to form a clamping band. The semi-circular formation of the clamping members 6 has a tendency to force the said clamping members towards the center of the bowl, thus enabling same to firmly grip and hold a cigar, as is indicated in Figure 1.
In view of the foregoing description of my invention, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it is thought that any further explanation as to the construction, operation, and objects of my improved cigar holder 1s unnecessary.
, fore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown, nor to the combination and arrangement of'parts.
W hat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is v 1. A cigar holder comprising a cigar receiving "bowl formed in one end thereof, a central draft passage in the opposite end and communicating with said bowl, a pair of semi-circular spring clamping members eachhaving one end thereof secured in the open end of said bowl, said clamping members having their opposite ends extending past the secured end of each other to form a clamping band. I 1 Y i 2. A cigar holder of the class described comprising a cigar receiving bowl formed in one end, a draft passage formed centrally in the opposite end, a pair of semi-circular spring clamping members having a tongue provided at right angles thereto and embeddedin the edge of the holder surrounding the cigar receivingend, said spring clamping members cooperating to form a c1amping band for retaining a secure grip upon the cigar until the same has been consumed,
In testimony whereof,- I have aflixed my signature.
