Patented Apr. 291, 1924,
UNITED STATES JOHN I. ARTZ, OF LOETSVIL LE EENNSYLVA NIA.
I CIGARETTE nonnmt' Application flled June 29, 1928. Serial No. 648,488.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that JOHN F. Anrz, citizen of the United States, residing at Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in cigarette holders, and objects of the invention are to provide a device of this kind which embodies simplicity of construction; one, by means of which, a cigarette may be effectively held against accidental lOSs or displacement; and one, by means of which the used cigarette end may be conveniently removed in an expeditious manner.
Other objects will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicates corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional view of a cigarette holder constructed in accordance with the present invent-ion,
Figure 2 is an end elevational view of the device shown in Figure 1 looking towards the right of the latter, and
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the socket sections.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the invention embodies a one piece stem 5 having the usual central longitudinal smoke assage 6, the inner end portion of which 1s enlarged and tapered as at 7. A socket member 8 composed of longitudinal h'alf sections 9 is detachably associated with the stem 5 and embodies a. tapered stem 10 adapted to be removably fitted into the enlarged bore portion 7 of the stem 5 whereby the socket sections 9 are effectively held to gether in clamping engagement with the end of the cigarette, the socket member 8 being formed with a socket as at 11 for this purpose.
It is noted that the socket 11 is of slightly less diameter than the cigarette end when the sections 9 are forced together by positioning ofthe tapered stem 10 in the bore portion 7 so that the cigarette is effectively held against accidental displacement from this socket, the sections Q-being forced together when the socket member is engaged with the stem due to the tapered fit of the latter onto the stem 10.
In-use, the socket member 8 is detached from the stem 5 by slipping the stem 10 out of the bore portion 7, whereupon the sections 9 may be readily separated. The cigarette end is then placed ,in the socket portion of one of the sections 9 and then the other section 9 is disposed on the cigarette end in mating relation to the first named section. The stem 10 formed on the two sections is then inserted in the bore portion 7, thereby forcing the sections 9 together into gripping engagement with the end of the cigarette for holding it against accidental displacement. When the cigarette has been sufficiently smoked, the.
the unused portion of the cigarette 'may be readily removed, thereby avoiding the usual objection had with one piece cigarette holders.
It is believed that the manner of use and advantages of the invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art fromthe foregoing description, and minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
A cigarette holder comprising a one piece stem with its bore enlarged and tapered at its inner end, a socket member having a tapered stem adapted to be fitted within said enlarged tapered portion of the bore of the one. piece stem and having a socket for reception of the cigarette end, said socket member being composed of longitudinal half sections clamped together upon insertion of the stem of the socket member within the enlarged tapered portion of the bore of the one piece stem. 4
In testimony whereof I afiix mg signature.
' JOHN ARTZ.
