F.M.mMBALL LIGHT IPROJECTOR`- Filed Aug; 2o, 192s ATTORN EY f Patented Aug. 18, 1925.
UNITED STATES FRED KIMBALL, OF SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
LIGHT PROJECTOR.
Application filed August 20, 1923. Serial No. 658,304.
To all lwhom it 'may conce/'1b.'
Be it known that I, Fnno M. KIMBALL, a citizen of the United Statespresiding at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Light Projectors, of which the4 following is a specification.
My invention isan improved light projector,'particularly applicable to automotive vehicles. v j
The object of Amy invention to provide a projector in which there are no upwardly directed rays to confuse and daazle an approaching driver.
My light projector is the combination of two reflectors mounted inca casing, with a lens in the front part ofV the casing. The rear of the casing contains a completely dome shaped reflector, which preferably has a peripheral flange secured to an inwardly extending flange on the casing. In front of this reflector is mounted a completely concave shaped reflector in both vertical and horizontal sections. This reflector preferably has a flange on the upper portion of its periphery secured to the flange of the dome shaped reflector. A light bulb is mounted in the second reflector, and projects the light on the main dome shaped reflector and tliencethrough the lens.
In theannexed 'drawing in which the preferred form of my invention is shown,
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of Amy projector.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Re terring more particularly to the drawing, my projector comprises a casing 1 to the forward end of which is suitably secured a lens 2.
A projecting reflector 3 has a flange 4 formed thereupon, and plurality of screws 5 extend fhrougl'i said flange into suitable cars G which extend inwardly from the casing 1. rlhus the reflector is secured within the casing 1.
'i A reflector 7 is positioned within the casing 1 and in the upper part thereof. A flange S is formed on said reflector 7 and is suitably secured to the flange 6, thus holding the reflector 7 in position. The lower edge Q of the reflector 7 'extends to about the center. of the forward edge of the reflector 3. A light 10 is suitably mounted in the reflector 7, the rays of which are directed downwardly and rearwardly into the `reflector 3, where they are projected forwardly upon the road.
The curvature of the reflector 7 is such that the rays from the light 10 will be projected upon the reflector 3 at suitable parts to prevent any upwardlydirected rays from the reector 3. That is, the strongest light will be thrown upon the lower part of thereflecttir 3 which causes it to be projected horizontally.
From the above construction it will be seen that I have an efficient and simply constructed reflector projector, in which the main reflector 3 is completely dome shaped, and has mounted in front thereof a completely concave reflector 7, both being.
mounted inside the casing 1.
Having described `my invention, I claim:
1. A light projector comprising in com-- bination a casing, `a completely dome shaped projecting reflector mountedtherein having a flange on its front edge, a second refiector in the casing concave in section having allange on its upper periphery only secured to the flange -of theprojecting reflector and a lamp in the second reflector' i adapted to project rays of light on the projecting reflector.
2.,A light projector comprising in combination a casing having a flange therein,
a completely dome shaped projecting re'- y fleetor having a flange on its front periph-x ery secured to the flange of the casing, a. second reflector 1n the casing concave 1n cross section having a flange on its upper periphery only'secured to the'flange of the projecting reflector, a lamp in the second reflector adapted to project rays of light on the projecting reflector and a lens secured in the casing in front of `the reflectors.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
