Application filed January 22, 1925. Serial No. 4,004.l
1/ 'o zZZ whom t @my concern:
Be it known that we, WALTER lnnLL and HANNS llinnnnrisoiin, citizens of Germany,
residing at Berlin, Germany, have invented o certain new and useful improvements in Combs, of which the Jfollowing is a specification.
@ur invention refers to combs and especially to foldable pocket combs. ari object of our invention to provide a foldable comb the par of which can be locked in unfolded position more easily and safely than similar combs hitherto designed, in which slides embracing the back of the comb were employed 'for preventing the parts from folding.
ln the drawings aihxed to this specifica` tion and forming part thereof a foldabie comb embodying our invention is illustr ted by way of example. ln the drawings-N Fig. l is an elevation showing the comb in unfolded condition,
more lt is in Fig.
lfigs. i are lonffitudinal sections D and lo-C, respectively l 3 i similar views showingl -folded condition, and
l* ig. "i s an elevation of a modification.
heterring first to Figs. 1,-6, the comb is formed or 'three sections, two end sections 1 and 3 and a middle section 2 hinged together by means or" sheet metal fittings el, 5, 6 bent into lishape, each fitting embracing the back of a section and being connected with it by rivets, but leaving guide channels 7, 8, 9, respectively between the back of the sections and the respective fitting, these guide channels being disposed in line rwhen the comb is unfolded. Contiguous ends of the fittings 4, 5, 6 are formed into hinges 10, 11 which serve for joining the sections together. ln the guide channels there are mounted for longitudinal displacement three locking bars 12, 13, 1d connected by links 15 and 1G inserted in their slotted ends. rlihe middle bar 13 is equal in length to the middle section 2. A knob 17 mount- @0 ed on the end bar le projects from a slot 18 in the back part of the fitting' 5. Slots 19, 2O in the adjoining ends of the fittings receive the links 15, 1G, when the comb is folded.
`When the comb is unfolded, the' locking Fig. 2 is a crossseetion on the line lli-l bars l2, 13, 14 are shifted to the right by pulling the knob 17, whereby the links l5, 16 are brought out of register with the joints between the sections l, 2, 3, which are thus locked against refolding by the bars 12, 13, 14. Thus the operation of the knob 1'? suflices to lock and unlock the parts.
rl`he modification shown. in Fig. 7, while in all other details identical with the one described with reference to Figs. 1 liffers therefrom in that only two lcon L, bars 13 and le are provided, one of which equals in length the middle section 2 and, on being shifted in the direction of ecticn 3, bridges the joint between sectionsI 2 id 3 and thereby locks saine in unfolded position.
By combining springs (not shown) with the hinges connectingthe single sections the comb will unfold oit itself in a well known manner.
Obviously more and less than three tions can be united together.
We wish it to be understood. that we do not desire to be limited. to the enact details of construction shown and described for obvious modifications will occur to person skilled in the art.
No claim 1. A oldable comb comprising a plurality of juxtaposed sections hinged together and having guide channels provided on their backs and a plurality of locking bars linked together and displaceable in said channels. i
2. A foldable comb comprising a plu- 'ality of juxtaposed sections hinged together and having guide channels provided on their backs and a plurality of locking bars linked together and displaceable in said channels, the bar hinges and the section hinges being equally distanced apart. v
3. A. foldable comb comprising a plurality of juxtaposed sections hinged together and having guide channels provided on their backs and a plurality of locking bars linked together and displaceable` in said channels, onek of said bars being equalin length to one of said sections.
4l. A foldable comb comprising a plu.- rality of juxtaposed sections hinged together and having guide channels provided on their backs and a pair of locking bars linked together and displaceable is said channels.
V5. A foldable comb comprising a plus il.
'i'ality of juxtaposed seetions hinged together and having guide channels provided on their backs, a plurality of loekings bars linked together and displaceable in said channels and means projecting from saidirchannels for displacing said bars.
6. A foldable comb comprising a plurality of juxtaposed sections, U-shaped fittings mounted on the backs of said seetions so as to form guide channels thereon and a plurality of locking bars linked together and displaceable in said channels.
7. A foldable comb comprising a plurality of juxtaposed sections, U-shaped ittings mounted on the backs of said sections, so as to form guidel channels thereon, said fittings being hinged together and a plurality of locking bars linked together and displaceable in said channels.
k1n testimony whereof we affix our signatures.
