'1'0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANGELO F. R eon-am (commonly known as A'NonLo F. Rocnns), a citizen of the United States, residing 'at lold Creek, in the county of Powell and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anticreeping Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in anti-creeping devices for railroad rails and it is an object of the invention to provide a device of this general character which can be readily and effectively applied to the base flanges of a rail and engage a cross tie in a manner to effectively hold the ail against creeping.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved anti-creeping device for railroad rails whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter morefully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a view in top plan illustrating an anti-creeping device constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in'applied position;

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, my improved anti-creeping device comprises an elongated shank 1 having one end portion turned, as at 2, to provide a hook to engage over a base flange of. a rail. The major portion of the hook it, as herein disclosed, is angular in cross section but its opposite end portion is rounded, as at 3, to permit a nut 4 to bethreaded thereon.
The rail and tie engaging member M, as heremdisclosed, is formed of a single piece of material and -comprises a pair of spaced plates 5 and 6 having their outer vertical margins connected by an intermediate plate or web 7 preferably integrally formed therewith. The inner marginal portions of the plates 5 and 6 are provided with the notches 8 which snugly receive a flange of a rail and the member M is maintained in desired firm or tight engagement with the flange by the shank 1 hereinbefore referred The intermediate web or plate 7 at a point below the notches 8 is provided with an opening 9 through which the portion 3 of the shank 1 is disposed and the applied nut 4 contacts with said plate or web 7 from without. By proper turning ofthe nut 4 the member M is firmly forcedupon one flange of the rail while the hook 1 is drawn into firm and close contact with the opposite flange. The lower margin ofthe plate 6 is provided with an outstanding arm 10 of desired length and which terminates (ill in a depending flange 11 adapted to have v I direct contact with a. tie T whereby creeping of a rail in one direction is effectively prevented. If it is desired to prevent creeping of the rail in the o posite direction, my improved device can e readily and conveniently reversed.
It is also to be noted (Figure 3) that the arm 10, when the member M is in applied or working position, is located entirely beneath the rail. 1
It is also to be understood that my improved device may be made in such sizes or dimensions as the necessities of practice may require and particularly as determined by the size of the rail to which it is applied.
After the nut 4 has been applied, the same is preferably held against displacement by inserting a cotter pin 12 or the like through the rounded portion 3 of the shank 1 outwardly of the nut 4 in close contact therewith. F
From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that an anti-creeping device for railroad rails constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the sev eral parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 1. An anti-creeping device for a rail comprising a pair of plates connected by an intermediate plate, said first named plates being provided with notches to receive a flange of a rail, the intermediate plate having an opening positioned below the notches, a shank adapted to underlie the rail and having means to engage the second flange of the rail, said shank extending "through the opening in the intermediate plate and a nut engageable with the shank outwardly of the interi'ncdiate. plate but contacting therewith to hold the first named plates and the shank in proper engagement with the flanges of the rail, and a laterally disposed arm carried by one of the plates for contact with a tie.
2. An anti-creeping device for a rail comprising a pair of plates connected by an intermediate plate, said first named plates being provided with notches to receive a flange of a rail, the intermediate plate having an opening positioned below the notches, a shank adapted to underlie the rail and having means to engage the second flange of the rail, said shank extending through the opening in the intermediate plate and a nut engageable with the shank outwardly of the intermediate plate but contacting therewith to hold the first named plates and the shank in proper engagement with the flanges of the rail, and a laterally disposed arm carried by the lower portion of one of the first named plates for contact with a tie.
3. An anti-creeping device for a rail comprising a pair of plates connected by an intermediate plate, said first named plates being provided With notches to receive a flange of a rail, the intermediate plate having an opening positioned below the notches, a shank adapted to underlie the rail and having means to engage the second flange of the rail, said shank extending through the opening in the intermediate plate and a nut engageable with the shank outwardly of the intermediate plate but contacting therewith to hold the first named plate and the shank in proper engagement with the flanges of the rail, and a laterally disposed arm carried by the lower portion of one of the first named plates for contact with a tie, the contacting end of the arm being provided with a depending flange.
