LACE-TRANSFERRING DEVICE.
Application filed August 30, 1923. Serial N0.660,222.
resident of Dublin, in the county of Laurens and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful In'iprovememts in Lace- .lransferring Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to what might be termed core boards or fillers for use in the centers of bolts of lace and the like, and is intended as a substitute for the thin fac v tory boards around which lace is wound to form bolts; the said invention being intended to make it possible to cause the bolt of lace to retain its shape and to make it more expeditiously handled as it is packed on or removed from shelves or the like.
The invention has for a further object the production of a board of the character indicated that can be substituted for the ordinary factory board, without the necessity of unwinding and rewinding thelace; and the said device is of a nature that it can be used again and again in conection with bolts of different widths; the said invention having novel means by which an ad justment is effected and maintained for increasing or diminishing said width.
lVith the foregoing and. other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this application wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 illustrates a plan view of the board embodying the invention;

In these drawings, 10 denotes the side members of a frame and 11 an end member thereof, forming an enclosure on three sides and an open end in which the extension board 12 is slidable. The frame may have top and bottomplates, not shown, applied to it that protect or cover the extension board. The end member 11 of the frame has a projection or finger 15 extending inwardly and enters a slot 16 formed in the extension board, constituting a guide, although under certain coi'iditions of use, this guiding means may be unnecessary, as the slide members.

The frame has apertures 19 in its corners and the extension board has apertures 20 in its corners at the opposite end, the said apertures being intended to receive the ends of bails or handles 21, by which the telescopic movement of the extension board and frame is produced, it being understood that when the frame and board are inserted in a bolt of lace superimposed with relation to the ordinary factory board in the said bolt. of lace, the bails may be applied to the apertures of the frame and extension board respectively, and by pull thereon, an adjustment may be secured to cause the frame and extension board to fit in and occupy a space in the center of the bolt, after which, the factory board can be removed.
As a means for holding the extension board at different positions of adjustment, each edge of the said board is provided with a plurality of apertures 22, and these apertures may receive detents for holding the board at different positions of adjustment, it being shown that. in the present embodiment of the invention, each detent comprises a plate 33 secured to the edge of the frame by a fastening 34 such as a screw and that the said detent has an elongated shank 25 which lies parallel with the side of the frame but extends therebeyond and terminates in a hook or right angular extension.

After the extension board has been moved relative to the frame, the bails may be removed and used in connection with the next succeeding operation of this or another board of like character.
