W. E. BECK NAME PLATE Filed Feb. 19, 192-3 Qwwntoz Patented June 2, 1925.
WILLIAM E. BECK, or rmzaarcx, ILLINOIS.
OFFICE.
NAME PLATE.
Application filed February 19, 1925. Serial No. 10,414.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. BECK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Herrick, in the county of Shelby and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Name Plates, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to name plates and has for an important object thereof the provision of a name plate which may be readily produced from a single sheet of metal and in the production of which waste of material is eliminated.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character in which the single sheet is formed to'provide an attaching means for applying the name plate to a strap and a pocket for holding a name card or the like, the construction of the pocket being such that the strap, when the name plate is positioned thereon, prevents the escape of the contents of the pocket.
These and other objects I attain by the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Figure l is a plan view showing a name plate constructed in accordance with my invention applied to a strap;
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view therethrough;
Figure 8 is a transverse sectional view therethrough Figure 4 is a plan of the blank from which the name plate holder is produced; and
Figure is a plan view of a modified form of a name plate.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the name plate is formed from a single rectangular blank of material 10 which is indicated in Figure 4. This blank is' severed along lines extending inwardly from the sides thereof to form slits 11 and material lying between these slits is in the process of manufacture reverted upon the under face of the body 12 in spaced relation thereto and forms flaps 13 for supporting the side edges of a card 14. The body has formed therein an opening 15 through which the legend of the card may be read.
It will be noted that the slitting at 11 and the folding of the flaps 13 back upon the body provide at opposite ends of the body heads 16 of greater Width than such body and these heads have formed therein openings 17 for the passage of a strap 18, the openings being preferably of the same or slightly greater width than thebody and the strap employed with the holder preferably of the same width as the opening. If desired, the body may be formed without the flaps .12 and opening 15 and may be simply provided with the transversely extending heads in which event the name or legend will be stamped upon the plate. This form of construction is illustrated in Figure 5. In addition to thecard 14 placed within the pocket formed beneath the body in the construction first described, a sheet of transparent material indicated at 19 may be used to protect the card against destruction.
It is pointed out that a card of the same width as the body when placedwithin the pocket in order to be removed from the body must either flex downwardly or shift endwise and with either of these movements will be prevented by the engagement of the card at its center or at its ends with the strap 18. Thus the strap which forms for the body likewise serves to complete the closure of the pocket formed upon the body. It will be obvious that the structure hereinbefore set forth is capable of a considerable range of change and modification without in any manner departing from the spirit of my invention and I accordingly do not limit myself to such specific structure except as hereinafter claimed.
I claim 1. In combination, an elongated body having an opening and provided upon opposite ends thereof with transversely extending heads having openings of slightly greater width than the body, the sides of the body having flaps bent back upon the under surface of the body and combining therewith to form a pocket and a strap passed through the openings of said heads extending beneath the body and flaps closing the ends and open central portion of the bottom thus formed. I
2. As an article of manufacture, a name the mounting plate holder comprising a rectangular blank of material slit inwardly from opposite side edges thereof in spaced relation to the ends thereof the material between the slits being folded upon one side of the body in spaced relation thereto, the body having a longitudinally extending opening, the heads formed outwardly of said slits being provided with transversely extending openings of slightly greater width than the body. 10.
In testimony WILLIAM E. BECK.
