Patented July 10, 1951 PACKAGING FOLDER FOR SNAP FASTENERS Maurice J. Berkson, Highland Park, Ill., assignor to Columbia Fastener Company, Chicago, 111., a corporation of Illinois Application January 13, 1949, Serial No. 70,629
1 Claim.
This invention relates generally to snap fastener holders, and has particular reference to a snap fastener holder which may be readily folded into a compact package.
The object of this invention is to provide a holder for snap fasteners and the like which is formed of an elongated sheet divided into holder sections by traverse folds, said folds being disposed'to allow the holder to be folded into a compact package.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a snap fastener holder having holder sections enabling the package to be folded into a compact package and means thereon for retaining the package in the closed position.
Other objects of the invention will, in part, be obvious, and will, in part, appear hereinafter.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention, reference should be had to the following detailed description, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a view in perspective of a snap fastener holder embodying the features of the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in section taken on line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the holder of Fig. 1 in the fully closed position;
Fig. 4 is a view in section taken on line 44 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form of holder embodying the features of the invention.
Referring to the drawing, there is illustrated a snap fastener holder III, which is formed of an elongated strip [2. The strip I2 is formed of paper, cloth, or other suitable material, and is divided into snap fastener holder sections M by transverse folds l6 which are so formed that the alternate folds are in opposite directions. By this means the sections may be folded one on the other to form a compact package. Each section I4 is provided with a number of regularly spaced openings 18 therein to receive a snap fastener 20, comprising a stud member 2| and a socket member 22. The stud member 2| provides a base 23 disposed on one side of the holder section M, with the stud shank projecting through an opening I8. The socket member is disposed on the other side of the holder section l4 in engagement with the stud member, to retain the snap fastener on the holder.
To maintain the holder II] in the closed or folded position, a closing member 24 is attached to an end of the strip 12, and is provided with an attaching tab 26 disposed on the end thereof, and a tab-receiving slot 28 intermediate the strip I2 and the tab 26. The distance between the slot 28 and the tab 26 will depend on the width of the holder sections between the folds and on the thickness of the package formed thereby. In any case this distance should be apzroximately equal to the circumference of the package so that when the closing member is folded about the folded holder sections, the portion of the closing member beyond the slot will extend around the holder sections to enable the tab to be inserted into the slot. The package may be retained in the closed position by other means. As illustrated in Fig. 5, a stud member 38 may be provided on the closing member 24, and a socket member 32 disposed on the tab in the appropriate position to receive the stud member.
During handling of the closed package containing snap fasteners, it will be found that the fasteners on the outermost holder sections will tend to wear through the closing portion adjacent thereto. To prevent this, a bufier plate 34 is disposed between each outermost section and the closing portion when the package is assembled. The buffer plates 34 may be formed of any relatively rigid material, such as cardboard, and also assist in imparting rigidity to the assembled package.
Since certain modifications may be made in the device without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained herein be interpreted in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
A holder for snap fasteners comprising an elongated strip of sheet material having snap fastener holder sections formed by transverse folds in the strip and adapted to be folded together in alternate directions when the holder is folded to closed position, said sections having identical groups of openings therein for receiving the studs of separable snap fastener devices which may be mounted thereon with the studs extending therethrough and with the complementary parts of said devices disposed on opposite faces thereof, the openings in adjacent pairs of groups being offset lengthwise of their sections with respect to each other to permit said studs to be nested in substantial alignment when the snap fastener holder sections are folded together, a closing portion no wider than the remaining length of the strip extending from one end of the strip and having a length sufficient to extend around said REFERENCES QITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
