To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Hnxnv P. lumr'r, a citizen of the United. States of America, residing in Ridgewood, in the county of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to boxes, and aims to nrovide certain improvements therein.
he invention is particularlydirected to a construction of box designed to be used as a container for small objects, such the inside parts of pneumatic tire valves or the like. It is desirable to pack such valves in such manner as to avoid dust and dirt, and
to keep them separated as far as possible until used. The invention in its preferred form provides a box of tin or otner metal which is adapted for this purpose, and which shall be of cheap and simple construction.
The invention also includes certain other features of improvement which will be hereinafter pointed out.
Referring to the drawings which illustrate one form of the invention,-
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the box in a closed position.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, showing the cover partly open.
F'g. 3 is a top or plan view with the cover removed. Fig. 4. is a section on the line :l.-+l in ri 2.
eferring to the drawings, let Aundicate the box or receptacle which in the iembodiment shown is constructed of metal or other stifi material and is designed to accommodate a series of valve insides or plun'gers. As shown the valve plungers are arranged lengthwise of the box, and the box is of soilicient Width to enclose five plungers. B is the cover of the box which is preferably of the sliding type, and is designed to be withdrawn to the position shown in Fig. 2 or further in order to permit the removal of one or more f the valve plungers.
According to the present invention means 5 is a section on the line in in substantially se arated condition while in the receptacle. ucli means are shown as comprising a series of recesses w'a preferably tormed directly in the bottom of the box. The valve plungers C of the particular type shown are larger in diameter at the end I) then at the end 0. Hence I prefer to malts the recess a shallower at the rear (5 than at the front e. At the same time the to bottom of the hm: is elevated as shown at f. Preferably also the recesses correspond some what in shone to the valve plunger or other article so that the latter is supported substantially along its length.
In the type of valve plunger shown it is very desirable to maintain the seat 3 separated from the valve proper g until the valves are put into use. This is due to the fact that the valve pro ier is provided with 7? a rubber or other packing and this packing; pressing against the seat is apt to be deteriorated. By the present invention means are provided for keeping these parts separated, such means comprising a projection. g 75, which enters between the parts just referred to. The projection g is preferably stamped uni from the bottom of the box and extends a sullicient distance across the box to engage each of the live valve--plungers 0011- so tanned therein. The plunge-rs may conveniently rest Wltlltlll! connecting pins 7; ongthe projection 51. The cover B or the box is preferably of the sliding tyne, being formed with side flanges j which extend an downwardly along the sides of the box, and are preferably bent at is so as to engage a portion of the bottom of the letter. In order that the box may have a smooth hearing face at this point the projections g are not so carried all the way across the box, but are discontinued near the sides thereof at points which are sutliciently remote from the sides of the box to secure the bearing face thus referred to.
The cover of hex is-prefelrablv provided with a frictional lock. to he it in place in its closed nosition. To this end the cover is preferably provided with a lip m which is adapted. to makea spring en 10o gagement with the forward edge of the box whereby the cover is frictionally held in position. lit is very" desirable to provide a rib, such as Z, whicn stifiens the lip m and causes it to act more positively; The rib Z we also acts as a finger-had in sliding the cover back. The rear edge of the cover is also preferably provided. flanges which limits the forward movement oi the cover on the box.
While I have shown and described, the preferred construction of the invention, it
